Technical Help / Re: Windows 10 - The Eagle has landed!
« on: Sunday 02 August 15 10:41 BST (UK)  »
I had been underwhelmed by the response times, especially when looking at Rootschat, and the loss of my favourites. Then I had an idea, shut down Edge! Everything back to normal, including the download problem, thank goodness!! Then I saw your reply Falkyrn :D.
I'm glad to hear about Firefox, I think I'll give it a go.

Thanks for your  replies Brian and Lizzie. I'm using Internet Explorer and before Windows 10  whenever I clicked on download (from FindMyPast) another box appeared asking if I just wanted to save, or  save as. That doesn't happen now and there is nothing  to select Tools on the screen, so I have to go to my downloads then rename the file then move it to where I want it. Very annoying!!
I thought Firefox was closing down, as a few weeks ago I was going to start using it, but a friend told me not to bother. Have you heard anything?

Hi,
I've downloaded Windows 10 and everything seems to be OK except for a couple of niggles! I lost my favourites list, but eventually found it, but I don't like the format it's in now. Can I change it?
The other thing is, when I download something from FindMyPast, it doesn't give me an option to "Save as" and just sticks it in the Downloads. Any ideas, anyone?

I don't think I can add to the many plaudits that have been given in this post, so I can just say "Ditto,
Ditto, Ditto!" and thanks to everyone who has helped me.

Thanks for looking Libby, and Dobfarm for pointing out that it will be a miracle to find Maria's baptism! I think, Libby, that Yarm would be an awfully long way to walk your girlfriend home ;D
Thanks for trying, anyway,

Trying to find the Birth/ Baptism of my 7x Gt Grandmother Maria (Mary) GRUNDEY (Grundy).
She married David JOY in 1678 in Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire, so I'm thinking she would have been born around 1655-60, and as they married in Pateley Bridge, there is a fair chance that she was born there. Another puzzler for the helpful people on the Forum! ;D.
Any help gratefully received.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Birth/Baptism of Benjamin JOY born Esholt 1850 Q3

Hi Suz & Brian,
I know that the census doesn't give POB but I'm trying to do a bit of detective work!
On Michael & Jane's marriage register entry for Otley in 1850, Jane gives her father's name as Thomas and his occupation as Labourer. I know thousands of people were Ag Labs, but it does give a nudge in that direction. And her age in the 1851 census for Esholt matches.

Thanks BumbleB,
but I don't think I'll follow it up, as I don't have any Mary's or Nancy's in Pateley Bridge.
