Family History Beginners Board / Re: how to gather information before 1841 ??

If you have the census records from 1851 or later, then you should know when and what year they were born. Look at the parish records for those places and you'll find some possibilities for baptisms.

I assume it's Thomas Skinner and Rebecca Anderson married on 6 April 1836 at St Mary's Handsworth, Staffordshire? (on familysearch).

I have an ancestor Robert Kells who was apparently 106 when he died, born 1699, died 1805 in Ireland.

My mother is friends with the oldest person in Australia at the moment - 112! Caused a bit of a stir when she started volunteering at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick at age 100.

Appears he had some books stolen from the slaughter house of "Richards and Blakeney" in 1851.

Did he apply for a publican's license in 1851 - the Leicester Arms, Clarence and King Sts?

and maybe sell the license later that year?

Benjamin Richards and Michael Blakeney dissolve their partnership in 1851

Quite a few more articles, I searced for "Michael Blakeney", but there may be other articles if you use different spellings or initials. Happy hunting! Looks like you can get quite a good picture of his life in Sydney.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Henry Williams Wendron Cornwall 1828

It's probably best to try to find the family on the 1851 census as this will have Henry and Ann's birthplace and age. The census info (from 1841 and 1861 too) will  prove who belongs in which family. A bit tricky having at least 3 families with Henry and Ann as parents in the same area! I don't have an Ancestry account, but maybe if you posted a census lookup request on the Cornwall forum someone could find them for you.

Ah, just noticed William WILLIAMS son of Henry and Ann baptised at Crowan, Cornwall 14 Dec 1828 on familysearch.
So, on FreeReg (also good coverage for Crowan), William baptised at St Crewenna, Crowan, abode - Wendron. Also:
Henry   bap 22 Feb 1818   (abode Crowan)   father occ miner
John Glanville 1 Oct 1820  (Crowan) miner
Ann           22 Feb 1823    (Crowan) miner
John Roberts 23 Oct 1825 (Crowan) miner
Sarah        14 Nov 1826    (Wendron) miner
Henry        26 Apr 1827    (Crowan) miner
Mary          25 May 1829   (Crowan) miner
Elizabeth     7 Nov 1830    (Wendron) miner
Julia          29 Jan 1832     (Crowan) miner
Elizabeth Jane 2 Feb 1834 (Crowan) miner
Joseph      30 Jul 1837      (Wendron) miner
Thomas      2 Oct 1838     (Crowan) miner

Also there appears to be a family of Henry and Ann at Crowan, but Henry is a farmer.
Not sure if all those baptisms above are the one family, or just the Wendron ones?

There is no Henry Williams marriages at Crowan either, getting late now, so will look further afield tomorrow. :)

Hello Julie, welcome to rootschat!
Are you saying William's baptism was at Wendron in 1828? The only William WILLIAMS I can see on FreeReg is baptised at St Wendron, Wendron 6 Mar 1828, father Nicholas and mother Jane. The only baptism I can see at Wendron with parents Henry and Ann is of Eliza, bap 1 July 1835, abode - Lancarrow. The Wendron records have pretty much been completed from 1560 - 1901 on FreeReg. ??? (Can't see a marriage of Henry and Ann either :()

Other Countries / Re: How many more Generations before I can expect to find Slaves

Oh and I think slavery was abolished in Jamaica in 1834, but the slaves had to keep working for their "owners" as apprentices. Actual "freedom" didn't happen till around 1838.
