There is a school record for a Harriet Clare
Bath Street School, Islington
admitted 26.8.95
Clare  Harriet, father John, 20 Peerless St, d-o-b 10.9.85
also (admitted same time)
Clare  Elizabeth, d-o-b 14.9.87

Is that her?
Maybe ought to say that those birth dates in the school records aren't always right (or so I've found!)

That 1848 West Ham marriage to Frances Rose you found looks the most likely? Father Stephen Wood

1851 in Woolwich -
piece 1588 folio 20 page 33
Samuel Wood, 30, Chair Maker, born Doddington Kent
wife Frances, son William

Not sure that there is a Samuel Wood baptism at Doddington, there was a John Wood, parents Stephen + Ann, in 1825. Father a Labourer

There's a brief newspaper report about an itinerant chair bottomer called Samuel Wood fined for assault at Maidstone petty sessions (1846)

Hi
Well they are settlement examinations / enquiries written up in rough form, I guess! They are not sworn examinations, as you would get in cases of orders of removal, etc, probably most people who were examined were "settled", so usually more of them appear in these rough books
It's on ancestry, London Poor Law Records - Borough/Union Lambeth, Settlement Papers - Rough Settlement Examinations, 1877-1879 (image 254)
Is only brief, mentions a sister

A widowed Mary Amos, 24, born Whitminster, in the workhouse in Eastlington 1891
Mary Harwood, 14, born Whitminster, daughter of Robert and Hannah, in Wheatenhurst in 1881
Could her age have been upped in 1901?
