Hi,

I have located a possible ancestor (Charles Bray) in the 1871 census.  I cannot read the writing of place of birth - England ???.  It appears that his wife Lydia Bray has similar details as I read her place of birth as (do do)below Charles's entry.

If anyone has ideas it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks Mel

Devon / John Bray born c 1789 Newton Bushell
« on: Thursday 24 December 15 06:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm trying find out more information about a relative John Bray born c 1789 Newton Bushell (as listed on the 1851 census).  Is there anyway of checking parish records to confirm his birth/baptism?  I'm unsure if there will be more than one John Bray born in Newton Bushell, as I have also found a 1861 census entry with a John Bray born c 1786.  This is what I have found and I'm unsure this is the same John Bray.  Thoughts/info would be appreciated.  Thanks.

John Bray m Mary Smart 27/11/1820 Plaxtol, Kent.

John and Mary have numerous children in Plaxtol and Maidstone Kent, with their first child (Mary born in 1821 in Plaxtol) parish record stating John and Mary Brey abode Coomb Anthony near Newton Bushell, Devon Sailor.
I believe in 1846, Mary Bray, John's wife dies in Plaxtol (I have yet get the death certificate to confirm this) however the 1851 census finds John Bray living in Maidstone as a widower, chair maker, born in Newton Bushell Devon, with 2 of his children Jemima and Charles.  I have been unable to find a John Bray living in Maidstone in the 1861 census.

I have since found another John Bray on the 1861 census born c 1786 Newton Bushell living in Stoke Damerel, Devon with wife Elizabeth and granddaughter, occupation Mariner.

I have not been able to track down other information to confirm that is this person is in fact the same or different people.  There is a John Bray death listed in Maidstone 1863, however I'm unsure whether this is the John Bray I'm after.  Confirmation of a baptism(s) for John Bray in Newton Bushell may help with this mystery.  Thanks again.

Hi,
I have found a Charles Bray admitted to Greenwich Workhouse, Woolwich Road on the 3 May 1870.  He is listed as sick, occupation labourer.  He is aged 26 (born c 1845).  He is listed under Chas Bray on the website.  This is a possible fit for one of my ancestors, however the weird thing is that I cannot find any discharge documentation, moves to the infirmary or death record for this person.  Even looking at different spelling for the surname.  This seems odd for such well kept records from the workhouses.

Am I missing something??

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / John Joseph or Joseph Mark Ridan born abt 1851 Jersey
« on: Wednesday 09 December 15 03:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I suspect a family member was born in 1851 Jersey.  I'm in Australia so accessing records in person is not a possibility.  Details of what I know are -

Name: John Joseph or Joseph Mark Ridan (other spelling variants within Australian records for this family include -  Redan, Riden and Raiden)
Father - Joseph
Emigration to Australia - before 1877.

Unfortunately that is all I have at this stage.  Any help with confirmation of a birth date, parents names and siblings would be appreciated.

Essex / James Perkins born approx 1813-1817 Littlebury - help
« on: Thursday 08 October 15 11:57 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out more information about a James Perkins born about 1813-1817 in Littlebury (information gained from 1851-1881 censuses).  He married Sarah (?? maiden name, born in Bonsall, Derbyshire 1811-1818?? ), unsure when and where the marriage took place.

They are first found in the 1851 census living in Steers Tce Fulham, Middlesex.  Listed as Lodgers.  James occupation is Shoemaker.  1861-1881 census find them residing in Castle St, St George Southwark. The 1861 census lists them as Thomas and Ann Perkins (however I believe this to be a mistake).  It appears they have a daughter Elizabeth - listed as Betsey in the 1861 census aged 12 born St George Southwark. I have been unable to find a birth record for her either.

Any help to confirm James baptism and other family details would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to track down if a Rosemond Wood listed as born in 1860 Woolwich Kent in the 1861 census (parents Samuel and Frances Wood) was registered for her birth under a different name.

I have found a Rosanna Wood born Greenwich 1860 June Qtr (1d 590) which may be a possibility - is there any chance of finding out parents names for Rosanna?
Thanks.
