The Lighter Side / Missing Births 1984-2005 on Ancestry
« on: Wednesday 28 January 09 11:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,  :)

Has anyone else been having this problem? I have been trying to view the birth records 1984-2005 on Ancestry for the last week and I still have not been able to.

If I enter the name on the normal search parameters, the 1984-2005 Birth reords do not even appear on their list.
When I have gone the long way round to their catalogue and chosen the 1984-2005 BMDs, both the deaths and marriages allow a search, however when clicking on the births, the next page comes up with a search box, but for "Unknown"  ???

I have emailed, but no response.  :(

Any one else having the same problem?

Hi Rootschatters! ;D

I posted this on the Photo board and has been suggested I try this board as well.
Jim thinks the cap badge is for the Dorset Light Infantry WW1.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Nurses - need date & possible place?
« on: Thursday 13 November 08 13:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters!  :)

Found the following photo and no-one in my immediate family seems to know who/what/where. Was hoping some eagle-eyed Rootschatters could throw some light on it, and maybe we could then work out how it is connected to our family.

Need any info possible - possible date, any info regarding type of uniform etc. Not even convinced it was taken in Britian at the moment.

Any help would be fantastic!

Many thanks,
Tamar  ;D

The Common Room / Maternal Grandparents named on Chritening Records?
« on: Monday 15 September 08 11:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters!

I have come across 3 christening records on the England & Wales Christening Records 1530-1906 (on Ancestry). They are for siblings, all of which have their maternal grandparents as well as their parents named.

I have not come across this before, and wondered how common it was?  ???  Would there be a reason for this?

Details are for: Harriet Emma Mary Jewers b 6 Jan 1808 Hampshire, Edwin Augustus Jewers b 22 Mar 1812 Hampshire and Frederick Arthur Jewers b 13 Dec 1817 Devon.
It lists their DOBs, but not a specific Christening date.

I know all 3 were definately christened all together 22 September 1824 St. Andrews Church, Plymouth, Devon, as I have a copy of the entry (which lists their DOBs as well). However, this document makes no mention of their maternal grandparents, only their parents.

Any thoughts or ideas? Many thanks!  ;D

The Common Room / COMPLETED Birth Registered Twice?????
« on: Sunday 31 August 08 13:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters,

Wonder if any of you out there have come across this before?  ???

I am just sorting through my collection of birth certificates and noticed the following:
On the "order/receipt" form that I received back from the GRO with the certificate (in 2006), the printed GRO reference information that I originally supplied with the order has had the Qtr and Page number crossed off, and new ones hand-writtenn in.

I never paid any attention to it before, but decided to double check - the information I supplied, against the information hand-written onto the receipt.

Imagine my surprise to discover that BOTH references are correct! How could this have happened?  ???

Has anyone come across this before?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts......

Tamar
