Warwickshire / Hands family, Warwickshire
« on: Monday 26 November 18 12:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. Bit of a longshot, but does anyone have anything for a family by the name of Hands in either the village of Ilmington or nearby Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire. I have one individual born circa 1915, name possibly Molly, but not much else.

Trying to find some stuff on my great uncle, Delwyn (Del) Griffiths, born 03/08/1923, who I am pretty certain was Lancaster aircrew in WW2, probably a flight engineer. His place, of birth, if relevant, would be either Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, or the village of Pantywaun, also Glamorgan. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the input, guys; much appreciated. Ken, his granddaughter told me he was in the Guards, but think I might have to cut my losses on this one; don't think it's worth £30 if I'm going to get a negative outcome!

Any takers, then, for an Alfred H(enry) GORING, aged circa 17, maybe living with parents (?!?), in 1881, and presumably circa seven years of age in 1871? Around Gloucester?

Cheers.

Armed Forces / Grenadier Guard........or not?

Any tips on verifying whether an individual served in the Grenadier Guards over 100 years ago? Name was Alfred Harold GORIN, born circa 1888 in or near Gloucester. Am guessing he would have served, if indeed he did, between roughly 1906 and 1911, as by 1912 he was self-employed in Hereford.

Cheers.

Hi all.

Researching an individual by the name of Harry David JENNER (surname possibly also rendered as JANNER). At the moment, the main source I have for him is a copy of his marriage certificate, dated 10 September 1919, in which his age is given as 28 and his occupation as Warrant Officer, RN. Underneath this is appended what looks like HMS Lowestoft, but my reading of this could well be incorrect, as the writing is very small and hard to make out. His residence is given as 24 Eastport Lane, Lewes, Sussex, and he is shown as a widower, this time around marrying a Hilda Blanche JENNER (a cousin, possibly?); his father is also shown as a Harry Jenner. The only other document I have for him at the moment is a copy of the 1901 census, on which he appears as Harry David JANNER, aged 9, in South Heighton, Sussex. Anybody have any tips on how I can fill in the gaps for this individual, possibly via a service record, etc?

Cheers. MT
