Angus (Forfarshire) / can anyone help me please
« on: Sunday 26 March 06 12:00 BST (UK)  »
I am hitting a brick wall; my grandmother's birth certificate states on it Mary Alexander McLeish (illegitimate) parents Andrew Ford McLeish 100 Foundry Lane and Euphemia Alexander 41 Cowgate. (1905) I also have a marriage certificate for a Mary Alexander McLeish which states on it Euphemia Alexander now married to Christopher Nicoll (1908)- I cant find any marriage certificate for Andrew Ford McLeish and Euphemia Alexander nor can I find any information about them.
can anyone please help me because I have become stuck already on this side of my family. ???
thank you ahead of time for any assistance

thank you ...... now i might sound stupid but the census yes i have tried well i think i have..... what i think now after doing it all today AGAIN looking and coming up with nothing for Euphemia Alexander and Andrew Ford McLeish, is perhaps they were never married........ i have a copy of my grand mother's birth certificate and it says on it illegitimate, and after searching the cobwebs in my brain i remember my dad saying while he was alive, granny Nicoll, and I remembered an Uncle of my dad's whose name was Nicoll, i never knew which side of the family it came from but i did come across a Euphemia Alexander marrying a Christopher Nicoll - so that is perhaps where i am going wrong here; looking for a marriage that perhaps didnt exist?
But like a true Aussie of Scots origin, I will continue to plod on....... ;D

I have been searching and searching but am unable to find out anything past my grandmother or grandfather - Maggie or Margaret Robertson 1880 daughter of John Robertson, (Tailor) and Catherine Brown & John McIntosh Son of Joseph Mcintosh (calender worker) and Betsy Mitchell. A kind gentleman from Scotland was going to Edinburgh and was able to at least a copy of her marriage certificate to a John McIntosh  28th December 1901 in St. Margarets Church, Lochee and supply me with this information. The witnesses were a David Peebles and Helen Mcintosh.
It is so frustrating trying to do this from overseas; I have already spent a fortune, well a lot of money  ;) on scotspeople to really not find any information out. What is weird also, my mum's family was not exactly small and yet I cannot locate any relations/ancestry files that are even looking for the same thing. I was the first generation to be born outside of Scotland - there apparently were 2 of my mother's brothers who went to the United States.
If anyone has either McIntosh/Robertson in their ancestry could they please help me please shed some light on this as both names are apparently quite common there and not knowing exact d.o.b. makes it even worse.
thanks heaps

I have been searching and searching but am unable to find out anything past my grandmother being born - Mary Alexander McLeish 1905. On her birth certificate it states she was illegitimate mother Euphemia Alexander & Andrew Ford McLeish. Now this is my first problem, secondly, Culley - my grandparents were John Culley who married Mary McLeish, I think his parents were Thomas Culley and Sarah Gethins but cannot be sure because it is only a guess from a time period close.
