Northumberland / County Hotel - Newcastle?
« on: Thursday 06 April 06 22:34 BST (UK)  »
Does anybody know of the County Hotel, Newcastle?  Is it still there, or has it been renamed?  I am hoping to find out about some meetings that were held there in the 1930s.  Hopefully somebody will have kept records, but probably not.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 census look-up Chelsea
« on: Tuesday 04 April 06 11:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Could somebody look up an Amy/Anny Pryke b1817 living in Chelsea.  In 1851 census she was living at 4 Earl Row.  She would have a Clara Pryke, daughter b1845, and son Walter Pryke b1847 living with her.  She was a widow in 1851, I'm hoping to find her husband as well.

Thank you

Armed Forces / Thomas Ford - Royal Warwickshire Regt
« on: Saturday 01 April 06 22:25 BST (UK)  »
Already posted about my grandfather, but would be really grateful if anybody could supply me with futher information that I already have.  Thomas was in the Warwickshire Regt from 1901 to 1917.  He was wounded at some time, and in the Labour Corps before being discharged.

I know that he was reported missing twice, so presumably his next of kin would be on his army records.

When the soldiers were wounded when in France, did they stay in hospitals over there until totally recovered, or were they transferred over to England?  If so, were there certain hospitals for certain regts, or just the hosital with the most places available?  Were the records kept of the injuries in the hospitals?

Hope somebody can help

Norfolk / Lynford Hall
« on: Saturday 01 April 06 21:30 BST (UK)  »
Does anybody know anything about the employees who worked in the grounds of Lynford Hall around 1900 onwards?  My great grandfather was head gardener there and lived in a cottage in the grounds.  I know that the grounds were taken over and are open to the public now, and used for activity groups etc.  Has anybody been, and are the cottages still there?  His cottage was next to a main road.

Norfolk / Surname - Main, Great Cressingham
« on: Saturday 01 April 06 17:47 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for anybody who has Robert Main in their family tree.  He is the one born in 1854, not the one born in 1850.  I made that mistake and followed a trail all the way to Tasmania, then realised it was the wrong Robert.

I've sent for his marriage certificate, hopefully to find out his parent's names.  He has proved very elusive.  I think his mother could have been married 3 times, eventually becoming Mary Hall, living in Igborough.

London and Middlesex / Girls Orphan Home - Kilburn
« on: Thursday 30 March 06 01:02 BST (UK)  »
Does anybody know of an orphan home on Cambridge Road around 1871 in Willesden?  My great grandmother is on the 1871 census as living there as an orphan aged 15.

Her name was Alice Pryke, daughter of Amy Pryke, sister of Walter Pryke and Clare Pryke.  I think her mum died, no sign of a dad, and her siblings must have put her in the home.

Has anybody ever been there?  I think my great grandfather was an orphan there in 1861, and would like to verify it.
Would it be easier to write to them for records, or do you have to go in person?

I have a medal record for Thomas Ford/e who was in the Warwickwshire Regt as a private. He was in from 1901-17, left because he was wounded.  He was also in the Labour Corps for that reason.  I am hoping that this is my grandfather because the dates all fit in with the details we have.  I'm just wanting to verify this before I attempt to get to Kew for his full record.
Does anybody have any information at all that may verify this.  He was born around 1873 in Ireland.

Australia Lookups completed / Tasmania look-up please
« on: Monday 27 March 06 01:05 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping someone can find Robert Main b1850 in the records somewhere.  He was born in Great Cressingham, Norfolk. His parents Judd Macrow and Marianne Maine emigrated in 1857 with four children on the Southern Eagle. I am hoping that his name will appear on the list. He had his mothers name, as did his brother William, though Judd was names as parent on their birth record. If Robert did go to Tasmania with them, he came back here and married my great grandmother.
He is on our census records from 1881 again.  I wouldn't like to think he was left behind, but it's looking that way, because there's an R M registered in 1861 as an orphan aged 9.  Hope somebody can help.  Apparently Judd and Marianne settled on Mount Pleasant, Don.Penguin wherever that may be.
