Hello,
Can anyone tell me what this means on a Scottish marriage certificate?
It`s from 1883 and in the column where normally would be the names of the groom`s minister and witnesses it says `Warrant of Sheriff Substitute of Lanarkshire` and the date.
No minister or witnesses.
Is he in jail? Under `Where Married` it says `By Declaration in presence of` and the names of 2 men.
I am intrigued.
