Bedfordshire / Re: ARMSTRONGS of Ravensden

Please Please Please watch the Ravensden records on the IGI ....
I found a huge amount of males missing. When I bumped into someone from the LDS at a fair I asked why and was told.... they must have taken all the boys to the next parish to get them baptised.....
I knew full well they were there as I'd seen them in the microfiche down a the SOG.
I'd also say keep an eye on Wilden as some of the fiche is barely readable so mistakes will happen.
Age old saying but if it's on the IGI still check the originals.

Armed Forces / 2nd Leicestershire ( Where to Start Looking at Kew?)

I found at the LMA, records for husbands G, Grandfather when he was on the training ship Exmouth, It said on the records in OCT 1892 he was then being transferred to the 2nd Leicestershire ( he would have been 14 at the time).
Where would I start looking in the NA at Kew? Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Did he run away from the Army to Join the Navy and then went back to the Army?
By 1896 when he was 18 he was entering the Navy fraudulently in 1896, see link ( The newspapers are on my to do list in the new year).

I've found his papers joining up to the RA in 1897 ( Unburnt) and 1905 (burnt)
Where would I start looking in the NA at Kew? Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Thank you for your input.
I found Thomas last night on the 1891 census on board the training ship Exmouth. So I am going to have to try the LMA to see what sort of records they have for it.
He joined the army under assumed names twice once in 1897 under the surname White, and found out some how when he was in Camp Rookee in India, and signed a delaration in 1902 . Transferred into the reserve in Jan 1905...... He then joined up again ( July 1905) under the surname Martin and got caught again...... in October but was exempt from trial.
I'm lucky that I have found his records both in the burnt and unburnt sections in Kew. ( all with the names he used! they must have had some good detectives in the forces or he was having a drink or two, which was normal for him looking at his army records). He also never mentioned other service on either of his Attestation papers in the Army.
And I'm now wondering what he did when joining up first time and if there may be another record in the navy section online in Kew that is him again and they just gave him a page again with his real name.
He's really intregued me and I want to find out more if I can.

On the attached record Thomas was prosecuted for fraudulent entry into the Navy.
I'm guessing HL ( in his sentence) means Hard Labour, but what does CP mean? Crown Prosecution??
And where would I possibly, be able to track down some information as to what the fraud was?
(I have his Army records and he twice joined up using a false surname so I'm guessing it might be along these lines.)

I wondered if you kind people may like to play around a bit with this picture of my mum and her nan, a bit of a tidy up and I'd love to see a bit of colour if you had the time.
Great Nana had a bit of a reputation, She was Irish, hated Royalty and loved Hitler....... unlike mum who used to hide photos of the Queena nd P. Margaret under her bed! ( mum grew up with her until she died as she like to take over things). She was also known for hanging my uncles by their braces on the coat hooks!

In those big pockets of hers on her apron...... she filled with stones to pelt her son for giving mum marg instead of butter LOL

Bedfordshire / Re: Where next in Bedford

Apologies to you both for my late reply. ( I'm not normally like this alot of things have dragged me away).
I do plan to get the certs bit by bit as I can afford, I recently became a memmner of the SOG as it's close to where I live and a great opportunity to use the fiche that they have in the mean time. Especially as the surname was a popularish one for Bedfordshire ( Dean) although my GGF came from Staffordshire, and I also hoped that I may pick some things out in the parish Registers that I wouldn't in the BMD indexes.......
I've gone through mums parish records in Ravensden and they were not Baptised there.
Addresses I have so far are Ford End Road, Church Sq, Green Hill St, Thurlow St and Russell St.
My dad was the son of one of the girls and was fostered out through the Church ( he was born in Church Sq) So I'm also trying to pin down a relationship between a church in Bedford and one in East London........
Cathy i'm planning to try and go through all the Deans in the NA for service records for ww1 I think mst of Dads uncles would have dropped their first names LOL fancy they were! and a bit German........ But I think that was more to do with their parents seeming to like the Victorian Royalty..... Which with their more usual second names, throws the net a lot wider.... and needs me to look at other things that may be on the joining records for WW1.
But thank you both very much and if you come up with some more ideas I'l be really pleased!
