Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage Lookup in Bath 1844
« on: Wednesday 24 March 10 06:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Looks like they were married at St Marys, Bathwick.

Unfortunately Marriages at St Marys only transcribed to 1840 at present.

Could she be from Wiltshire?

There's a Henrietta Eacott in the '41 census in Swindon.

Hi

Sorry, if you just go to the first part

http://www.highlittletonhistory.org.uk

and then chose 'Registers' from the menu on the left of the page
then scroll down to

HLWesleyan Baptisms1841 to 1955 & Index.pdf

it should download for you, but it gives no HILLIER Baptisms

I can say that the first Methodist Chapel in Midsomer Norton was built in 1775 following John Wesleys visit in 1767. It was rebuilt in 1859.

Hi Elin

You don't offer any names but you may like to try this web page

www.highlittletonhistory.org.uk/.../HLWesleyanBaptisms1841to1955&Indx.pdf -

Not exactly Paulton but certainly based on the Clutton District

Hi Les

My Gt Grandmother was at the orphanage you mention, as a pupil, when it first opened.

I was able to get some information and I suggest you write to

stmarychurchparish[at]btinternet.com

I'm fairly certain I found a website about the property but it was quite sometime ago

http://www.priory-primary.torbay.sch.uk/about/history.html

I notice you have connections to Hooper of Exborne, do you know if this family connects with a Dorothy Hooper of 1738 who married a Gabriel Cox at Iddesleigh in 1767?
Just part of my Maternal line.

Somerset / Re: William CULVERHOUSE born in Bath in 1811/12
« on: Friday 26 February 10 05:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Could your William be about 10 years older?

There was a William Culverhouse baptised at Argyle Chapel 27 Oct 1800
A birth date is given as 12 May 1800
Father, Chas
Mother, Martha

Not too many other options with Culverhouse but a Culverwell in 1811 at St Swithins

Happiest
Finding my Paternal Gt Gt Grandfather, whose name was misinterpreted when he joined the Army.
That he served in Australia and New Zealand and returned to England with a Wife and three children

Saddest.
Finding that my Maternal Gt Gt Gt Grandfather who struggled to make a life for himself his wife and family, found that his life became so intolerable by his second Marriage and loss of a son and only daughter following closely the loss of his first Wife, that he took his own life.
His body being discovered  "hanging in the privy" by his 7 year old and youngest Son.

Hi

You might like to view this the Paulton Conservation Area Character Report.

www.bathnes.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/E54F54AD.../PaultonCAA.pdf

Although it doesn't give any specific details it does outline the Foundry of William Evans of Hanham House established  by 1819 and the fact it was owned by Edward Evans in 1898.

It moved  to the old Coal Depot on Frome Hill (Mount Pleasant) Writhlington during the 1890's, so apparently close to 1900, and the relocation closed in the 1960's.

Hi

Contact the Bath Archives.
www.batharchives.co.uk
Often the person you're looking for doesn't appear on the Electoral Roll
but they can help and did provide me with details and addresses for our Family.
