United States of America / 1945 San Francisco Conference on the founding of the UN.
« on: Tuesday 03 February 15 21:40 GMT (UK)  »
Ok so this is a bit of a stab in the dark..

I know that my Great grandfather (Robert Richard Vacher) attended the above conference as a clerk (i think) to the British Delegation. I have him entering and leaving via ship through Canada and USA. And have a rather charming pencil written diary of the journey to the conference. (it is a lot sparser during and post)

what i am wondering is Was there (and there MUST have been... right?) A List of folks with the ability to come and go from the conference. Some sort of security system?

If that's the case.. do those records still exist.. and where on earth should i look? :S

Thankyou Deb x

Hi Folks, I am looking to those folks with an "eye" for this stuff.. as this is beyond what i can manage. Sigh. I believe it is a legal document from around 1618 Dorset. possibly Bridport is mentioned..

It is large.. so there for i am attempting to link to photobucket as being the best way to preserve it for reading. Which is hard enough without quality loss.

there is no rush for this i guess, but as my research is back to that sort of era.. it might hold a clue or two :P

I think you for even so much as looking at this! :)

Armed Forces / Surviving records of the East India company muster rolls 1838?
« on: Friday 04 October 13 13:59 BST (UK)  »
I have one James Colville (Colvil) Born 1816, who joined up (1838) with the east India company and was shipped out to Colabar, India as part of the "8th company, 1st Bombay Regiment European Infantry (Later 1st BRE Fusilier and Light Company 1st BREF)".

He boarded a ship at Gravesend 1 Jun 1838, Deal on the 3 Jun 1838 and it took 4 months 10 days to get to Colabar.

I would love to find out if he died over there..

His brother Robert (b. 1822) Also joined up, although later and i found a record for his burial in 1861 in Madras, India.

James was as one stage promoted to Sargent, Later demoted back to private for drinking.
On one of his letters he gives a number GN253 no idea what this is but thought it might be useful..

Thankyou deb x

Any help with this would be great as i have been scouring the net for days!
