Thanks everyone for all your replies Very grateful and really appreciate you all taking the time to reply.
Taking everything on board I have now decided to switch to a mouse until I figure out how to turn down the sensitivity control. Actually it's much easier using the mouse I also Googled for static electricity as suggested by oldhippy and carried out the solution - it is still happening but to a lesser extent thank heavens as it's been driving me crazy
Until suggested here I had never heard of static electricity in laptops and the possible outcome if it's not discharged. Have tried this and fingers crossed that it improves as time goes on.
