Technical Help / Re: Cursor Moving!

Thanks everyone for all your replies :) Very grateful and really appreciate you all taking the time to reply.

Taking everything on board I have now decided to switch to a mouse until I figure out how to turn down the sensitivity control.  Actually it's much easier using the mouse :) I also Googled for static electricity as suggested by oldhippy and carried out the solution - it is still happening but to a lesser extent thank heavens as it's been driving me crazy :D

Until suggested here I had never heard of static electricity in laptops  :o :o and the possible outcome if it's not discharged. Have tried this and fingers crossed that it improves as time goes on.

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Birth John LAVERICK maybe WILKINSON c.1825
« on: Tuesday 01 December 09 11:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Colin
A big thank you for your reply and taking the time to do a lookup for me.  Very much appreciated  :)

I only have the 1841 and 1851 census records to go by as John migrated to Oz with his wife Mary(nee Gray)two children and his wife's family in 1856.
In the 1841 census it is shown he was born of Durham county as was his mother.
In the 1851 census John is shown as married, 27 and born at Monkwearmouth.  In a later census his mother is shown as being born at Grindon Stockton on Tees and father born at Whitby Yorkshire.

Had another thought that perhaps he was born illegitimate and being known to be a widow didn't have the stigma of being an unmarried mother for her :-\

Thanks Bob for your quick reply :o :o LOL
Very unhappy with the laptop  >:( but bought it because of the trouble free experience with my old d/top.
I try and keep my hands and fingers away from the touchpad by typing with my elbows in the flying position ;D  Obviously not working or I still have a gremlin in the works.
Any ideas  on why I lost my info when transferring the files Bob? As the defective h/d was freezing and affecting the dvd/cd drive I couldn't backup so my IT man took the old h/d and transferred everything.

Technical Help / Cursor Moving!
« on: Saturday 28 November 09 21:33 GMT (UK)  »
I bought a new Dell laptop and have been using it since April. From Day 1 the hard drive never stopped ticking when in use among other things!  My IT man heard it when replacing a battery in my 8yo desktop and told me that the hard drive was very sick and about to pack it in. Great >:( >:(  Contacted Dell  and had a new h/d installed under warranty and my IT man transferred all my files to a portable h/d then reinstalled to the new h/d but surprise files were there but no info in them >:( >:(

Now I have a cursor with a mind of its own. >:(  Whenever I am typing a message the cursor moves all over it taking a word or parts of a sentence and inserting them in other parts of the email. This means I have to keep editing messages and turning a pleasure into a real chore plus very time consuming.  >:(

Can someone please tell me what is wrong? HELP

Durham Lookup Requests / Birth John LAVERICK maybe WILKINSON c.1825
« on: Saturday 28 November 09 09:35 GMT (UK)  »
Am hoping some kind member can help me

John Laverick's birth has had me stumped for quite a few years and I may now have a clue.

In the 1851 Durham census John's birthplace is listed as Monkwearmouth and his age is given as 27yo.

In the 1841 Durham census he is living with his parents Thomas shipwright and Mary Laverick with his age noted as 15 yo.

Now on John's parent's marriage record at Sunderland in September 1825 Mary's name is Wilkinson and it is stated she is a widow.

Perhaps Mary married Thomas not long after her husband died and John's surname was changed  because at that time John was still a baby    :-\

Is it possible for someone to look at the Monkwearmouth records and see if there is a birth for a John Wilkinson c.1825 please?  I would be most graeful as it may also show the name of John's natural father which would be a great help !! I have looked in the IGI index but zilch!

Many thanks
