Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Allen of Camus, Glenleary etc- Macoquin, Dunboe, Coleraine

That is a very speedy reply! many thanks, yes that is them. I have been piecing together odd bits, but they weren't well off, so are slipping through some of the nets. Thanks indeed for confirming the Dunboe marriage; I'd deduced from various sources that his wife was Elizabeth, and only today came at it from two angles on Emerald Ancestors to make it fairly clear that it was the right couple.
Now it looks as though I descend from Henrys, and up until now I knew only that my mother's cousin had married into that connection, so that is an interesting change of focus

Derry (Londonderry) / Allen of Camus, Glenleary etc- Macoquin, Dunboe, Coleraine

I have just been trying to figure out the various Allen families in the Dunboe/ Macosquin area,  and if anyone is working on them, or knows about them, I'd be glad to hear from them.
My great grandmother Isabella Allen was granddaughter of Robert Allen of Glenleary who was 88 in 1911.

Fermanagh / Re: 1911 census

Yes I'm sorry for people who don't know their way round the local names; there are problems with the transcriptions, and as you say there seems to be no way to contact the organizers, through the website at any rate.

Fermanagh / 1911 census- missing townlands?
« on: Tuesday 01 September 09 22:20 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone else noticed that the transcription of the 1911 census online lacks certain townlands? Molly and Aghindiagh in DED Doon seem not to be there.

Derry (Londonderry) / Parliamentary papers online
« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 19:44 BST (UK)  »
Until this week I don't think I have ever come across  the Poor Law Valuation  lists  in the Parliamentary Papers . These are lists of only the more substantial farmers/ townsmen, and are possibly not available for all of the Poor Law Unions; he PLU of Coleraine is online I know. I didn't check anywhere else. Worth having a look if your ancestor had more than say 15 acres, because they were compiled in the 1830s/ 40s, much earlier than Griffiths, and may supplement or update the info in the Tithe Applotment books.

However you have to hurry because

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Letitia Brown and family from Moneydig, Londonderry
« on: Monday 27 July 09 23:18 BST (UK)  »
I am interested in the Browns of the Garvagh/ Moneydig area. My great great great grandfather was Robert Brown of Bovagh. It would be nice to be able to link this Robert Brown into a possibly related family of Browns of Trinaltinagh, who are in the 1796 Garvagh congregation visitation list. The parents were Samuel and I assume Elizabeth, the sixth son was John, who became the respected and longserving minister of Aghagowey. Another son was William who was a lieutenant in the militia. This link with the military may be significant, given your possible military link, which wouldn't have been that common in farming families. I've been given a few details of descendants of the Trinaltinagh Browns; one of them was I believe a naval doctor, so again a military slant
