Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Re: RE: Wingerworth.

Thanks,

Found the death entry in the registration index; Elizabeth Beardow, Mar 1842, Chesterfield, 19 379.

Not sure this is her, but if I order a copy at least it will either confirm or rule her out.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / RE: Wingerworth.

Hi,

I'm trying to find a particular Elizabeth Bearder after the 1841 census.

In the 1841 census she was living alone (Ind.) in Wingerworth Derbyshire, age 55, county of birth Derbyshire.

Can anyone help find her in either 1851 census, or marriage/burial between 1841-1851?

Thanks

Thanks Victor,

You are right, that is indeed Hannahs burial in 1851, I have previously acquired Hannah's Death certificate, and her obituary from the yorkshire gazette newspaper also.  In the gazette it gives her age as 72 years, died Wednesday 26 Feb 1851, cause of death was given as 'found dead without marks of violence' which sounds an odd thing to say.

William is proving difficult though, and I cannot find any clues.  The bishops transcripts for Thornton-le-beans I looked at only covered up until 1812, so he may have died after this time or moved to a neighbouring village or to brompton perhaps. There were no more births registered between 1808 and 1812, which to me seems strange and most likely that they moved on from thornton le beans after 1808 or that William past away and was buried in a neighbouring parish.

Can anyone offer any thoughts or advice please;

I have a relative named Francis Cartwright born 16 Nov 1808 Thornton-le-Beans, and have been seeking to dig back further into the Cartwright line.

So far I have found Francis's baptism 20 Nov 1808 at Thornton-le-Beans in the bishops transcripts.  His parents were William Cartwright and Hannah Metcalfe, and they were married 6 Dec 1806 in Thornton-le-Beans (witnesses Mary Cartwright and Leonard Metcalfe).
In the 1841 census Francis's widowed mother Hannah was living in His household in Brompton, but i cant find any trace of his father Williams death or burial between 1808 and 1837.
 Francis owned a Linen weaving shop in Brompton, near the shops of Smith Atkinson and Barnabus Causfield, until his death in 1857.   He married Elizabeth Barwick 13 Jun 1829 at Brompton but can't find any witnesses or further details relating to this marriage.

I've since been searching for his father William Cartwright's baptism and I've found the following in nearby South Kilvington;

William Smith Cartwright 19 Sept 1784 son of Francis Cartwright and Mary Fawcet on the iGi site.
I wonder am I conveniently putting two and two together or is this really likely to be the correct William?  It looks promising though as one witness at William's wedding in 1806 was a Mary Cartwright who could have been either his sister or mother perhaps, and William's first/only child Francis appears to have been named after William's father Francis.  William's siblings all had middle names too, so i thought they may have been easier to find in other records, but I cant find them mentioned in any records so far after their baptism entry, so can't find any solid links.

William (Smith) Cartwright's siblings where;

John Fawcet Cartwright, bap. 14 Mar 1786
Mary Cartwright, bap. 27 Feb 1787
Francis Barnabus Cartwright, bap. 11 Jun 1788

Any thoughts or local knowledge would be appreciated,

Thanks

Hi Emms,

Ive been going back through my notes and I'm back to George Cummings again :(, did you ever get a chance to look up George's entry?  If not then no worries, but if you did that would be amazing as I'm at a brick wall.

Best regards

Durham / Place name search help
« on: Monday 27 May 13 17:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have been reading a book around County Durham c1750. In this book a place name "Paddington, contiguous to the city of Durham" is referenced. Does anyone know where this is today?

Possible,

But I can't find her in 1841 census, which makes me inclined to think this burial is for a Pheobe Johnson born after 1841.

Hi,

I'm trying to find what became of Pheobe JOHNSON, baptised 17 January 1813, Stainton, Cleveland, North Yorkshire.  Daughter of John and Elizabeth JOHNSON.

Cannot find her in Burial records, or Marriage records, or the 1841 Census either.

Can anyone help?

*Note: Pheobe was baptised on same day as her four sisters, Margaret, Penelope, and Jane.  Margaret and Penelope were born c1810.

Regards,

Claretnblue.
