Other Countries / Re: Eliza Bochin (possibly India) Marriage & Death
« on: Saturday 31 August 19 06:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi Solidrock,
I have the details for Elizabeth Ann Hessman b.1805 her marriage to Martinus Schooff as well as the details of the marriage of WHB Hessman to Ann Robertson ( nee Bowler)
I am looking for WHB's mother named Eliza (Elizabeth?) who possibly married a Bochin.
WHB Hessman's parents were Elizabeth & William I believe.
Regards,
H

Other Countries / Eliza Bochin (possibly India) Marriage & Death
« on: Saturday 31 August 19 04:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to find any reference to an Eliza Bochin.
I believe she married a Bochin and her former name was Hessman. I have found reference to her in the Will of William Hugh Barker Hessman in 1803. (attached)
William Hugh Barker Hessman was a British Subject based in India. He was a captain in the 25th Regiment of Foot and died at Fort William in 1809.
His parents were William & Elizabeth. I cannot find any marriage records for William & Elizabeth and nothing for the (possible) marriage of Elizabeth to Mr Bochin. I cannot find any death details for Elizabeth either.
I believe that William had 2 brothers, namely Henry and Thomas.
Any help would be greatly received.
Regards,
Hilary

Hi,
Wondering if anyone can remove the speckles from this photo.
Interesting photo of my friend's parents with a shoe-less father.
Thanks,
Hilary

Do You have any idea what the uniform is? I believe this gentleman worked for the Bombay & Baroda Railway as a Sub Conductor. Having put that information in I may be sending people off on the wrong track.

The mother and child are unknown.

Armed Forces / Any records for A D F Mackenzie (Royal Scots)
« on: Thursday 16 November 17 02:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am hoping to find any records for ADF Mackenzie (Arthur Donald Faulconer)
I have been able to find his Silver War Medal Card which gives me his Regimental Number (7373) and indicates that he was in the Royal Scots Regiment. There seems to be no Service Records.
I also came across the reference in findmypast
First name(s)   Arthur D. T.
Last name   MacKenzie
Service number   7273
Rank   Private
Badge number   48729
Enlistment date   16-May-1900
Discharge date   25-Jan-1917
Regiment/unit   Royal Scots.
Cause of discharge   Wounds Para 392 (xvi) King's Regulation
Whether served overseas   Yes
Badge date of issue   05-Feb-1917
Record set   Silver War Badge Roll 1914-1920
Category   Military, armed forces & conflict
Subcategory   First World War

He was born in India in 1883 and his family left India in 1900. I am presuming that he joined the Army after his parents departure.

He died in 1925 in Glasgow. On his marriage certificate, his occupation is Clerk, Army Pensioner.
I have letters written by him from 1913 to 1919. In 1913 he is in Allahabad, India and mentions that prior to this station he was in Kamptee.
1915 he is with the British Ex Force (10 Platoon “C” Coy Royal Scots 8th Infy Bde) and by 1918 he is in a hospital in Glasgow (he mentions a Sanatorium) He has phthisis (TB)
He mentions speaking with the "Pension people"as possibly emigrating to Australia. There doesn't seem to be any Pension Records either.
So, my question is - where else can I search to find any records?
I would be grateful for any suggestions.
Regards,
Hilary

Ross & Cromarty / Re: Donald McKenzie possible family - Help needed
« on: Tuesday 26 September 17 08:33 BST (UK)  »
"Alexander has left 4 of a family, John 2, Robert 5 & William 5"

Looks as though Robert & William were twins!

Did you forget to list the 4th child or was it omitted (unknown)?

Annie
Hi,
I'm not sure why you think Robert & William were twins.
I believe the numbers relate to the number of "offspring" for each of them
Refer to the letter attached in the original post for clarification.
Also, do you have references for your suggestions?
Thanks,
Hilary

Ross & Cromarty / Donald McKenzie possible family - Help needed
« on: Tuesday 26 September 17 05:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have had a brick wall concerning Donald Mackenzie (McKenzie)  from Kincardine, Rossshire for many years.
Donald Mackenzie went to India aboard the ship “Waterloo” and the Depot Description list states that he was from Kincardine, Ross.
It gives his age as being 22 in 1822 when he enlisted. However his burial record in in 1867 states his age as 71 making his date of birth about 1796. I was unable to obtain any further information from this document other than he was a labourer. No parents etc. were listed.
However, I recently came across a letter written by the minister from the church in Dingwall, Ross.
The letter was written in 1875 by Rev. Ronald McAlister and was in response to enquiries made by one of Donald’s sons requesting information on Donald’s family.
Firstly, the letter states that Donald was a native of Nig (Nigg?)
It then goes on to say that Donald had 4 brothers, namely, Alex, John, Robert & William and also 3 sisters, Lillias, Isabella and Catherine. All of whom are dead with the exception of William who is 88 and resides at Tain, Ross-shire.
He then goes on to say that Alexander has left 4 of a family, John 2, Robert 5 & William 5, the majority of which reside in Ross-shire.
Lillias died unmarried and Isabella left 5 of a family. Catherine’s family are all dead.
I tried finding William on the 1871 Scotland census but could not find any possibilities. I also looked for Lillias in earlier census’ as she was unmarried but wasn’t able to determine whether I had the correct one.
Also, the obituary for one of Donald’s sons who died in India states that he came from Nigg, even though he was born in India.
My query then is – where do I begin searching. Is Nigg the starting point?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
