Flintshire Lookup Requests / Thomas Hughes b1862 (+/- 1) in Mold
« on: Tuesday 03 July 07 16:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Trying to trace my ggrandad Thomas Hughes and his family. I have his marriage cert (1889 in Liverpool), which has him as 26 (so estimate b about 1862-3) and his dad as Edward Hughes (deceased), who was a miner.

The 1891 census has him age 29 and born in Mold, Flintshire.

Going from the names of his children, his mother may be called Ann (his other children were Katie (after his wife Elizabeth's sister), Edward (after his dad) and Thomas (after him)).

Possible attempts to trace him so far include 1861 census, showing an Edward Hughes [his dad?] (19, unmarried, coalminer) boarding in Chambers Rd, Argoed (Mold?). In this, Edward was born in Chester.

I may have Thomas in the 1881 census, (aged 20, quarryman, b Rhos-y-Cae), living with his mum Ann, sister Ellen (13, b Rhos-y-Cae) and brother Joseph (11, b Minera) in Pentre Bais (Gladstone Arms) Minera. [note - on Thomas' marriage cert, one of the witnesses was a Helen (Ellen?) Hughes]

Can anyone tell me where Argoed and Rhos-y-Cae are?

Can anyone do an 1871 census search for the family (with or without dad Edward?)

Better stop before it turns into a novel. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, John
