Yes his grave is still there, but I couldn't find it in the X-section.  That part of the cemetery is given over to baby graves.

I have telephoned the Crematorium office who say that the grave is there but that there does not seem to be a headstone.

Today I have phoned the cemetery office again, and there has been some confusion, apparently there is another section with exactly the same numbers, and the grave is in the secion across the path from where I looked.  The office are going to mark the grave on a detailed plan, when I have collected that I will go and search again.

Hello Orielbenfro

The grave is listed on this website as having a headstone, John William Stewart grandson of WH Denham    http://www.rootschat.com/links/0bmi/

I have telephoned the Crematorium office who say that the grave is there but that there does not seem to be a headstone.   I will go and have a look sometime this week, and will take a photograph for you if I find there is a headstone still there.

Kind regards
Barbara

I have just had a quick look on the Tees Valley Indexes, and I found Matilda's birth in 1910, there is a possible marriage for her in 1936 to John Vickers, and if you look on the freebmd website for any Vickers children born after 1936 with mother's maiden name Clarke, there are 3 born in Middlebrough district.

You could perhaps do the same for the others

Hi Michelle.

If you know their address in 1911 I'm assuming you have the 1911 census details.  To find descendants after that date maybe you could check the electoral registers to see if the family was still in the area.  Registers are held at Teesside Archives, so perhaps you could contact them: Teesside Archives, Exchange House, 6 Marton Road, Middlesbrough, TS1 1DB  Tel: 01642 248321  email: teessidearchives [at] middlesbrough.gov.uk
Have you checked Tees Valley Indexes for possible marriages/births/deaths? www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk
or you could ask the local newspaper to print a query about possible relatives for you
www.gazettelive.co.uk

Kind regards
Barbara  :)

Hi,   no you only get full information from the certificates.  Online baptisms might give both parents' names.  Perhaps if you have a look at the beginners boards here on rootschat you would be able to see what is available, lots of good hints and tips there.

Finding your nanna in the census should show her with her parents, then you can look for their marriage, and go further back that way.  If you don't have access to census records you can post a lookup request on the appropriate county board and someone will be able to help with that.  Give as much detail as possible, full names, dates and places of birth if known, say what you already know and what you want to find out.

Good lucik

Hi Weymouthgirl

welcome to rootschat :)

What a very sad story, I can tell you that St. Luke's Hospital still exists and is in the grounds of the James Cook University Hospital, Marton Road, Middlesbrough.

Here are some links to photos and history of St. Lukes, -

It has always been used for adults, I think, so perhaps your Dad was taken there as an emergency measure, perhaps no space in the appropriate children's home?   Records are held at Teesside Archives, here is the link to their holdings:

Hope this helps.
