World War One / Re: O.B.E military WW1

Thanks Ady, I found the Medal cards, missed the MID's though. I have tried the Gazette, beast of a thing that it is! I have just returned from UK where I was on study duty!! hence finding Dan. I may have time now I'm home to check out the gazette again. Then I will have to try and find a War diary for his reg. I suppose he wrote it & I think he must have been remarkably modest. I asked around my generation and nobody knew of his medals. He was my grandmother's cousin really but they all talked about each other incessantly, just not about Dan. Thanks again, Shirley

Hi, my hero's name was Daniel Rowland Smith, Lt Col on discharge in 1922. There was a family rumour he also served WW2 but he was born 1885 so I think he was too old! Maybe not. Thanks, Shirley

A relative I'm researching was awarded the OBE about 1917-1918. This honour was instigated by King George in 1917 so it's special. I can't find a citation & I have been unable to discover anything but the bare fact. Any suggestions?

Occupation Interests / Re: midwife
« on: Saturday 08 December 07 21:48 GMT (UK)  »
I just came across this topic. The women in my family that I know about (grandmother etc) seem to have mid-wifed for each other. My gran had her four babies under the care of her older sister and so on. I am not sure if they had a midwife also but they were very private ladies! loffhag
