Europe / Junio family from Paris?
« on: Tuesday 08 May 12 22:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but I wonder if anyone can help/advise my further research on my 2x gt grandmother's (Mary Jean or Jane Junio) family of JUNIO (also spelled variously as JUNILION, De JUNIO, JULLIEN, JUNOT) in France.
I have her parents marriage record from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on 10/10/1814 (below) giving her paternal grandparents as Louis Junilion & Marie Dubois of Paris. She had 3 brothers John Joseph (who moved to Syracuse, NY & died 1865), Joseph and Maximilian (both cigar makers and moved to Massachusets in 1869).

St Peter’s Church, Archdiocese of Halifax, Nova Scotia (Marriages 1810 - 1816 & 1830 - 1843)
(signed)Jean Freemont
P. N. Nignault, préte

Their grandson's (John Joseph Junio jr) obituary in New York 1904 says that he was a descendant of the famous Junot family of France, one of them being a general under Bonaparte and, at the downfall of the French emperor, a part of the family came to the US.

Any help appreciated.

United States of America / John J. Junio, Syracuse, NY
« on: Monday 07 May 12 23:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone help me prove that John Joseph Junio, a cigar manufacturer and labor activist, is a child of my 3x gt uncle, John Joseph Junio (1816 - abt 1865) and his wife Catherine Gordon who married Halifax, Nova Scotia 4/2/1845. They seem to have had a son John Joseph Junio, who married Emilie Meyer in Manhattan 15/9/1897.

John J. Junio, the labor activist, seems to have been born Boston, Mass in 1842 or March 1845 & died Oswego, NY 16/9/1904.
I think he married 1st., Ella L. (surname unknown) in Syracuse 1860, separated 1884, and had 3 children, 2 died young & John G. born NY 1862 died 1880-84.
John J. snr. then seems to have tried to bigamously marry Ida M. Brewer, née Kinney at Syrace, Wednesday 12/11/1884 She was born Philadelphia March 1862, and spent her earlier life in Winsted, Conn. They had a dau Marion E. Junio b NY Jan 1886.

I'm not sure whether he is also the same person who marr Emilie Meyer in 1897??

My 2x gt grandmother Mary Jean Junio (or De Junio) was born Halifax abt 1821 where the Junio family seemed to come from initially. 2 brothers Joseph & Maximilian, both cigar makers moved to the Boston, Cambridge, Charlestown areas of Mass. abt mid 1840s. There parents were Joseph Junio, joiner/mechanic & Ann dau of Charles & Jeanne Len(n)ox of Halifax.

Any more information to try and prove the above connection or any other connection would be gratefully received.

Canada / Junio & Lenox families in Halifax
« on: Saturday 07 April 12 23:09 BST (UK)  »
Wonder if anyone can help.

I have the marriage certificate in French of Joseph Junilion & Ann Lenox from St Patrick's RC Cathedral, Halifax, N.S. 12/10/1814 giving their parents as Louis Junilion & Marie Dubois of Paris, France and Charles & Jeanne Lenox of Halifax. The brides brother Charles Lenox was a witness.
The surname is variously spelled as Junilion, Julian & De Junio.

Of their children Jean was bap. St Patrick's 7/10 bur. there 10/10/1817. Another daughter Mary Jean (called Jane) was my 2 x gt grandmother and born Halifax about 1821. Their was a brother John Joseph who marr. Catherine Gordon, St Patrick's 4/2/1845.

I have recently found another 2 brothers Maximilian Junio (b. Halifax 1829) & Joseph Junio (b. Halifax 1822), cigar makers, in Massachusetts (Family Search). Maximilian's death cert. states his parents were Ann Lennox & Louis Junio (of France), so they are fairly certainly brothers of Mary Jean, although Louis was a mistake?. They all seemed to live in or around Charlestown, Mass. There is also a Louis Junio born ca. 1829 died Charlestown 1905 who was another possible brother???

Can anyone suggest where I can contact/search for the R.C. births of these children in Halifax. There is nothing on-line to help.

Thanks,

Craig

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Family of Hannah Wilson
« on: Friday 02 September 11 08:11 BST (UK)  »
Wonder if someone can help.

I'm trying to find out what happened to the family of Hannah Wood & Samuel Wilson (Mercer) of Gloucester. They were married at St Michael's, Gloucester 18/3/1749 and according to the IGI had at least 5 children John 1750, Elizabeth 1752, Hannah 1753, Hannah 1757 & Jane 1759, all bap. at St Michael's.
Samuel's will was dated 18/3/1779 & Hannah's on 8/6/1789 and they both seem to have been buried in a vault in the church of St mary Le Crypt, Gloucester.
I have a copy of Hannah's will and there is no mention of any children, although other relatives are mentioned.
If anyone has access to the St Michael's & the St Mary Le Crypt records could they do a search for the family between 1750 & 1789.
I'd be very grateful.

US Lookup Requests / Prior family in Illinois
« on: Monday 01 August 11 23:57 BST (UK)  »
Wonder if anyone has access to Illinois BMD records and can help me with this family.
James Prior emigrated to USA circa 1841 -1849 with wife Jane Evans. They had a son John aged 4 in English 1841 census. But can't find their emigration records anywhere or their entries in 1850 or 1860 censuses.
James & Jane next appear in La Salle, Illinois 1870- USA census, without John, but children Theophilus (21), Annie (16) & Eleanor J. (12). Says that Theo & Anna had married that year, that Theo born in Pennsylvania & the others in Illinois. Jane was still alive, a widow, in 1880 USA census, in household of Theo, his wife Hannah (or Anna), and children (7), Jane 1871, Emma 1873, Luella 1874, Belle (or Clara) 1878, Edwin 1881, George A. 1874 & Earl (Errol) T. 1896.
Theo & family seemed to have moved to Virden, Macoup, Illinois around turn of century.
Any more info on this family greatly appreciated.

US Lookup Requests / HITCHINGS family in New York
« on: Saturday 19 February 11 21:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I wonder if anyone has access to any of the New York/Manhattan BMD records.
An ancestor Anthony Ellis Hitchings (b. 1800) emigrated to New York 25/3/1835 with his wife Harriet Thomas & 4 children Charles Frederick b 1822, Anthony Ellis b 1824 d. NY 1847, Harriet Matilda b 1827 & Elizabeth Jane b 1831.

Harriet must have died sometime between 1835 - 1850 when Anthony senior had married for a 2nd time to Hannah or Nancy b. Massachusets 1805, surname unknown.
I'm interested to find Anthony's death/burial details and his 2nd marriage details.

Also his elder son Charles Fred. married Hannah Drew in NY 17/1/1850. They had at least 8 children, Harriet, Elizabeth, Charles, Hannah, Edward, Emma, Joseph & Lucie. I'd like to find their birth details.

Any help with these would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig
