Census Lookup and Resource Offers / 19th Century Papers lookup offer.
« on: Sunday 11 January 09 12:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hey guys,

Edit : Following on from recent posts about gale;

after trying to access the gale Trail, without success. I found out recently, by mistake, that i do infact have access to the gale 19th century newspapers, through my university account.

I have found loads on my family.

If i am allowed to, then i am happy to do people lookups for them.

So if you give me a Private message with as much detail about someone you are interested in looking at then ill see what i can do.

hope this helps some people.

Gary

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / 1891 Lookup Please
« on: Sunday 07 December 08 22:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hey guys -

Im really struggling to find my GGGGrandad in the 1891 census.

Here is his details :

Thomas Nash
b.1821
Stafford

He should be in Wolverhampton. As he was there in 1871 and died in wolverhampton in 1899. His wife died in the mid 1880's. So he would be by himself i assume.

His occupation is a Shoe/Boot Maker or cordwainer

Thankyou for anyhelp you can give me. Its the only census i cant find him on.

Wales / Welsh BRIGADIERS - Spanish Civil War Help
« on: Monday 01 December 08 01:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hey guys - i need some help with this topic.

My dads uncle was Called David Joseph Jones (Brother of Verdun Jones - my grandad), He was one of the many welsh men who fought in the spanish civil war, but never came back as he was killed in Action. He died in Jarama.

Basically i was wondering if any body could help me find more information on My great uncle. He was from Tonypandy, Penygraig?

I stumbled across this website at the beginning of the year. And was suprised to find a picture on the article that featured my great uncle. Its the image of the Leaflet with the 3 men on. THe only problem is id love to have that picture in full size, and would love to know if more pictures exist of the men from the Rhondda who fought in the civil war.

This is the link:

http://www.rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk/stellent/groups/public/documents/hcst/content.hcst?lang=cy&textonly=on&dDocName=015585

Apparently this picture also exists in a book called :
Coal Society - A History of the South Wales Mining Valleys 1840-1980 by David Egan. But i dont know where to find this as its out of print.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Gary

The Common Room / Help to find a relative who has disappeared after 1920?
« on: Thursday 27 November 08 15:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hey guys, i hope this is the right forum to post this in. Otherwise could the mods move it where best fits. thanks :)

Anyway, i need some advice on my Great Grandad.

His Name Was Henry Wilkinson. He married my Great Gran Ethel May Farmer ( Nee Grosvenor ) in 1919 in Tetenhall. Both living in The Wergs post office. He was a General labourer and serving with the Armed services??

Anyway my great gran had already had 3 boys by a previous marriage. She has 2 children by Henry Wilkinson, one of whom was my Nan. Nesta Wilkinson in 1921.

On Henry Wilkinsons Marriage certificate it says his dad was Elias Wilkinson. Apparently he was from wolverhampton. But when i checked the only Person who could fit this, and the same age is a Harry Wilkinson born 1879 whose father is Elias Wilkinson. yet he is using the name Henry wilkinson on his wedding certificate, and my nans birth certificate.

My Nan always told my dad she didn't remember her father, and knew nothing about him. He apparently left when my nan was possibly 1 or 2.  And they never saw him again as far as im aware.

THe problem is, i dont know how to trace him afterwards. Its a complete mystery to where he went, or why he went. Or even when he died.

And i was wondering if anyone could help me in anyway or give me advice on tracking people in the 1920's onwards.

Thanks guys.
