Lanarkshire / Re: Flemington
« on: Sunday 12 September 10 21:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello Aileen,
There is still a place called Flemington on the eastern edge of Cambuslang. (Which is south east of Glasgow).
There was also a small mining area to the north of Blantyre known as Flemington. Both places are only a few miles apart. These may be your two Flemingtons.

Hope this helps.

Kent / Re: Alice Easton (Nee Kent)

Thanks Pam, Anna and Casalguidi,

I can pass on the information to my brother-in-law, he will no doubt ask me to find more. As ever the search never ends it just gets longer.

The information on the bomber was interesting, it could explain why she was able re-married, but the children did not go to Scotland with her. I wonder what happened to them?

Thanks again to all of you.

Kent / Alice Easton (Nee Kent)

This search started because my brother-in-law asked me to look into his mother's ancestry.
I am looking for information on an Alice Kent. The information I have is a bit sketchy. Born about 1914, mother's name possibly Lock. She lived around the Sevenoaks area. She married a James Easton and they had two or three children in the late 1930s.
By the end of the war she had moved to Scotland and was re-married. (My brother-in-law's family.)
Both his mother and father have died. When looking through effects he discovered a photo of his mother, a man in uniform and two children.
If anyone has any information if would be very helpful.

Thanks in anticipation

Bill

Hello Geoff

I have Grahams in my ancestry.

My grandmother was Martha Graham (born 11 May 1886) from Raphoe. Her father was Robert Graham (born about 1841), he may have come from around St. Johnstown. He married Annie (O')Donnell in Raphoe 10 October 1885 in the Cathedral Church. Robert's father was John Graham.
Robert was in the British Army from 1858 to 1880 and eventually returned to Raphoe.

I would be interested to hear if any of this is in your family tree.

Hello jpquinn

The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) were based in Hamilton. Now disbanded but the Regimental Museum is there. If you Google "The Cameronians" you should get several hits.

Good Luck

Armagh / Re: William Wright and Sarah McConnell (or McGondell? or Connell etc.)
« on: Tuesday 27 April 10 11:00 BST (UK)  »
The  McConnell info comes from LDS.
My late Godmother told me the surname was McGondell. She had a brother who was registered at birth as John McGondell Millsopp. (He would be Sarah's grandson).
I appreciate that names can be corrupted through time and am pretty sure it will turn out to be McConnell, but it would be good to sure.

Thanks

Armagh / William Wright and Sarah McConnell (or McGondell? or Connell etc.)
« on: Tuesday 27 April 10 09:18 BST (UK)  »
My G/grandparents married in Seagoe 23 March 1876.
Their names were Moses Millsopp and Sarah Wright. This was her second marriage.

She was previously married to a William Wright. Various documents suggest her maiden name to be McConnell or some sort of variation. Assuming that she was married in Co. Armagh I am looking for details of her marriage to William Wright and confirmation of her parents names. I think her father's name was John and her mother Catherine McShane.

If there is a date of death for William Wright that would also be helpful.

Hi,

My father was in  The Cameron Highlanders. He was captured at St.Valery/Abbeville. when the 51st (Highland)Division fought the rearguard action.
If your relation was in The Seaforth or Cameron Highlanders the Regimental Museum at Fort George near Inverness has some limited information.
His service record will still be held by the army, but only close relations are permitted to access these details. The place to contact is at Kentigern House in Glasgow. They will be able to tell you whether you are able to gain access.
I have just received a letter from The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with details of what they held on my father. If you have enough information they may be able to give you something. (Name, date of birth, regiment etc.). They have a website where you can e-mail them the details, but it can take a few months to get a reply.
If your relation was captured at St. Valery the may have ended up in Stalag VIIIb in Lamsdorf. If you type Stalag V111b into your search engine you will find plenty of info about that particular camp.

Hope this helps,

Bill

Hi Ken

Thanks for the Web site. I will have a look through it.
My grandfather's name was William Millsopp.
I had another look at my notes and they are written down as 21st battery. I will concede that I may have transcribed it wrongly whan I was at Kew. (It wouldn't be the first time!)

Thanks again
Bill
