Thank you all for your help. I have copies of all the Scottish census returns for Michael and his family. On Michael's death certificate his fathers name was changed to Daniel...no idea why. I think John Preston's (Michaels father)parents were John Preston and Margaret Kelly... I haven't tried Find my past I will have a go at that. Someone asked for another copy of Michael Prestons' marriage certificate, which I have attached. I know sometimes with the Irish side you have to go to the parish. I am also aware that way back in the day you could be hand fast to your partner, so not sure if they did this and just never got married. Feels as if they kinda dropped off the planet for a bit.....

Kiltaglassen, thank you I knew I had posted somewhere. However I still need help. There are no Daniels in my family, plenty of John's, Joseph, Michael, but no Daniels....

Not sure about that one. If I have the correct John Preston he was born in Dromore in 1822. Don't have a birth certificate for his son Michael, however I am going to attach Michaels marriage certificate. He was married in Scotland.

Apologies if I have posted this before, but here goes. I am trying to trace a marriage between the above couple. I know they had one some called Michael. I have been on Ancestry, Family Search, and Scotlands people. Can anyone help ?
