Yes I can see these records. I can also find  two sets of william and sarah henderson on the 1891 census in northumberland. Obviously popular names there but I dont think these belong to me

Sarah Forster has her father down as John Forster

Thats strange, I have them in St Helens Lancashire in 1841 age 38 info from ancestry trees says Sarahs father was Robert and Williams was Cuthbert. Cant be the right lot can it?

They where both born in 1803 in Lemington and Newburn. William was a glassmaker.

HI There,

Owen Owens was a department store along the lines of Debenhams and was located in Church Street in the city centre,it closed down in the late seventies I think along with Blacklers which was another department store.

Armed Forces / Re: Help - naval record
« on: Monday 20 October 08 14:25 BST (UK)  »
I'm having real difficulty interpreting the last line of my grandfather's brother's naval record (see attached jpeg) - would be most grateful for some help...

Last entry for a ship name is v. hard to read (looks like Jot, but there aren't any ships I can find with anything near that name), and under the "If discharged, where and for what reason" column it looks like it says Snod, Polynesia.  Seems like something unusual happened, as the record ends 4 years into a 12 year enlistment, but I can't work out what.  FYI, a horizontal line was drawn beneath the last entry and another person's naval record was begun underneath (17 years later!).

Thanks!

HI
I think the discharge cause is Polyuria as in large volumes of urine and increased frequency as in Diabetes or prosrate problem. As for the name of ship could it begin with a Y and not J.
Hope this helps.

Could she have been baptised at St. Aidan's church in Billinge?  They have a website for contact details but I don't know where their records are kept.  Just a thought.

Thanks Royd ,yes she could have ,parents seem to be CofE although she later married in catholic church.
These records are also at Wigan History Shop.
I try to avoid contacting churches unless I really have to,dont find them helpful.

Hi Andycand,

Im actually getting the birth year from her marriage cert which states shes age 19 in Aug 1875,living in Baldwin street still.
She could have been born elswhere I suppose as it seems her father was born in Cheshire,I think<but Im just going by what evidence I have.Ive tried the St Helens angle but it doesnt seem to fit.

This woman is something of a mystery, the family story goes that one day when her 2 children where toddlers she upped and left them in the bath and disappeared, talk about brick wall. ::)

Thanks everyone for your input.

I just read that Wigan History Shop has microfiche records for Wigan parish or All Saints Church,

If anyone is using these records in the next week I would really appreciate a look up.

For the baptism of Alice Burrows b1856 father Samuel ?mother Alice nee Smith?

Regards

So sorry Heywood ,I wasnt very clear
I meant that I discount Sam and Mary in Moorflat due to the fact that on the census with the Murphys, Alice states that she was born in Billinge, which leads me to Sam and Alice as parents as they live in Billinge,
and I know the" Murphys"  Alice is the right one cos they are godparents to Alices child later.

Church records would be handy, but which church? Isuppose it could be Wigan parish church. I did look on Lancashire OPC but could only find this
Burial
7 Aug 1855
St Thomas The Martyr Uppholland
Age 28
ALICE BURROWS
Abode Billinge Higher End

Hmmm???
