US Completed Requests / COMPLETED George Hood circa born 1785-1787
« on: Tuesday 27 September 16 09:13 BST (UK)  »
Its a shot to the stars this.

Selby is Yorkshire is an inland river port that had small ships docking therein the 1700's

George Hood born circa 1786, who appears in Selby in Yorkshire 1812 as a Cooper who takes over a bankrupt cooper/barrel making business from bankrupt R Gibson, but in later years in trade directories turns his hands to the brewing & tanning businesses as well, which all are highly skill trades in their own right, this could indicate that George a trained businessman rather than a workman skilled in a single trade, also needed funding or his own wealth to acquire the 1812 cooper business. By 1841 census it states: George was born in Yorkshire ?. George died Selby in 1845 before the more detailed 1851 census unfortunately and after years of research, nothing has been found on George in Yorkshire or the UK.  The plot thickens, as George married in Selby in 1815 to a Sarah Russel -  George, his wife Sarah is wife who died in 1879 and 4 of his adult children died of T B consumption in the 1850's,  all these Hood deaths recorded in the GRO deaths in Selby but no burials of them can be found in Selby , Yorkshire or the UK for these deaths, research checks on burials  in various religions, even Quakers burial records have also been checked to no avail.

I'm now wondering if George Hood got a single one way ship passage around 1811/1812 from the USA to Selby and was born in the USA or Canada around 1785 to 1887.

Any help or suggestion wound be appreciated.
