Wow!, super fast replies - thank you all so much.

Annie EB Robinson did die in Scone in 1884, and yes that is her registration number.  She is buried at Scone Church of England cemetery.

Annie was born Annie Elizabeth Blanchard Larcombe, in Ilminster, Somerset, but I am still having trouble establishing her exact age.  Her daughter, Eva's birth certificate said she was thirty when she gave birth putting her birth year at 1853, her 1861, 1871 & 1881 census records state she was born in 1860 and a bdm search shows she was born in 1859.

On their daughter, Eva's birth certificate she listed the name Larcombe as her maiden name, so I'm not sure if she would of used Gould on her marriage certificate.  The 1871 census shows her still as Larcombe as well.  Maybe she did run away with James to Australia?  It appears her parents were reasonably comfortable - her father was a School Master which I imagine was a reasonable position in the community in 1800's.  Maybe she was a bit of a rebel!

James is listed as being 39 when their daughter was born, putting his birth year at 1844, but with Annies multiple ages, who knows if this is correct.  James is listed as a Gardener on Eva's birth certificate.

I havent followed James' line much so far, mainly because Larcombe has been a much easier name to trace than Robinson (how on earth to the Smiths and Jones ever find anything - with great difficulty I imagine)

Thanks for adding the other thread - there is a lot of information about them there.  I'm still figuring out what information I need to add to help get the answers I need.

Perhaps finding their ship is something that just will not be possible.   I appreciate your efforts and thank you for looking for me.

Regards
Kelly :D

Hi,

I was hoping someone could please help me find out what ship James Robinson and his wife, Annie Elizabeth Blanchard Robinson came out to Australia on.

According to their daughters birth certificate, they were married in England in 1881 and their daughter was born in August 1883 in Australia, so there is a very short period where they could have travelled.

I have searched as many sites as I can find on the internet and the closest I could come up with was on the australian mariners site where a Mr & Mrs Robinson came out in February 1883 on the steamer, SIAM, but there are no other details to say its them.  Is there somewhere I could look that would show a passenger list when they left England?

James was aged approx. 39 when his daughter was born, Annie was either 30,  23, or 22 when she gave birth (three separate years of birth for same person on documentation)

Annie was born at Ilminster, Somerset, UK.  Unsure about James.  They moved to a property called Turanville at Scone in the Hunter Valley, NSW upon arrival.

Thank you,

Kelly  :)

Hi again Ian,

What doe it mean that Francis Ann Emms was born at Hampton Court Palace?  Is this a town-place or literally a Palace?  If it is a palace, Would she have been born into a servant family or a privelidged one?

Thanks,
Kelly

Wow!  Thank you for the information Kris.  I have found out more in two days that I have in two months.  It is very much appreciated.

I wonder who the 'new' Larcombes and Palmers are?  They were living in Silver Street Ilminster too.  Perhaps a brother or sister.

Thanks heaps for your research,

Regards
Kelly

Hi Ian,

Thanks for finding out more info.  I'm starting to think that my current family are lucky to be here at all - it seems like each Larcombe sibling and parents all died very young.  I know that 1800's medicine is not like it is today, but was there some kind of epidemic in England at that time?  They were all dropping of like flies.  Annie EB Larcombe died shortly after arriving in Australia and giving birth, so the story goes to triplets, with only one surviving, being my GGM and I had assumed it was birth complications that she had succumbed to, but now i am thinking it may have been disease. (although having triplets would certainly take its toll on you :o)

Alas, as I am still picking up the lingo, what is IGI?

thanks heaps for your research.

Regards
Kelly

Thank you Ian and Judith for your research and prompt replies.  It is much appreciated.

With Margaret Larcombe marrying into the Emms family it certainly explains why Charles jnr & Annie EB were boarding with them.

How sad that Margaret died so young.  Her sister Annie EB died young as well just 12 months after arriving in Australia at aged 31, leaving behind by GGM at just 6 months old.  I'm still trying to track what happened to her in Oz.

The hardest part I find of tracing anyone is that the information can often be spelt different, or dates out of whack.  Anne Blanchard Larcombe now has three possible years of birth and hers is an unusual name, so it can only be her.

Thanks for the tip on the immigration posting board.  I will do a new post on that when I get home from work.  I am still finding my way around this website.

Again, thanks for all your work,
Regards,
Kelly Bartley :)

Hi, I am just new to rootschat and family history research and I think this is a fantastic website.

I am looking for any details of Charles Henry Larcombe, b1809, married Ann Blanchard Palmer December 1847, Ann b1822, d1865.  Three children that I know of, Mary Palmer Larcombe, b1849, Charles Henry Larcombe, b1856, Annie Elizabeth Blanchard Larcombe possibly born 1853 or 1860 (my gg-gm)  I have been given 1861, 1871, 1881,  census details, showing that in 1861, Charles senior was a school master and they all lived at Silver Street, Ilminster.  by 1871 the younger two children were boarders with the Emms & Wilson family at Ditton Street Ilminster and by 1881 only Annie EB Larcombe (aged 21) was "adopted" by the Gould family and working as a drapers assistant in Middlesex.

so, I was hoping someone could please help me with either parents for Charles snr. or Ann Palmer, death dates of any of the parents or children listed (except Annie EB Larcombe), any details of the school Charles snr worked at, or any thing else that might be of interest regarding them.

Also, Annie EB Larcombe married James Robinson in 1881 and migrated to Australia between 1881 & 1883.  They had a daughter born in Oz 17th August 1883.  I am trying to find details of the ship they came out on.  I have searched Australian records and the closet I can find is a Mr & Mrs Robinson on the steamer SIAM arriving in Feb 1883 in Sydney.  Is there a way I can check at the start of their journey in UK if this is them .

Thanks heaps!!!
