Yes, there is a possibility that Norman could have been his father's name as he named his first child Norman. The second child a girl was named after her grandmother on her mother's side. So maybe.

Karen,
Just as an aside: Thomas William FARRELL married Flora C M WILSON whose father's name was Henry Moreton Dyer WILSON.  I noticed that Dyer was a surname you were particularly interested in. He was a doctor in the Royal Navy.

Hi Karen!
It was said his family came from Ireland. But that is all I know. You are right; why put it in the paper if there was no one to read it who would be interested.

 :o
That's interesting...I had no idea that they were not registered until then. Unfortunately, apart from his marriage which was reported in the Perth Courier in 1883, I have no other information on his connections with Perth.
Thanks for your help.
kind regards,

Canada / FARRELL Family Perth 1850's
« on: Monday 13 February 06 17:12 GMT (UK)  »
:) Hi! I am looking for the FARRELL family who immigrated to Perth Ontario possibly in the 1850's or earlier. My husband's ggrandfather Thomas William FARRELL was born in Perth, Ontario in 1852. We would like to get a copy of his birth certificate. He married Flora C M WILSON in 1883 in Kimberley, South Africa and describes himself as a mining expert on future UK census forms (1891) Any information would be much appreciated.

 :) Thanks, Paula.
This really helps. I got the reference to a GEGAN from another site with a family tree....so this could be wrong. I will order the certificate. Thanks again.

The Common Room / Ascension Island Birth 1867

Hi everyone!
I am researching my husband's family. His gggrandmother Flora C M WILSON was born on Ascension Island in 1867. Her father Henry Morton Dyer WILSON MD RN (1836-1867) married  a ???? GEGAN. I think they only had this one child. I would like to get hold of her birth certificate.
Also her marriage certificate. This was found in The Perth Courier: (Canada) FARRELL-WILSON Married on (date illegible 1883?) by special license at D--------,
Diamond Fields, S. Africa, Mr Thomas William FARRELL of Perth to Miss Flora Constance Mary WILSON, only daughter of the late Henry WILSON MD, RN.
Any thoughts??

Thanks, Paula
I didn't mean to be so vague. The information you sent me was useful, especially the IGC stuff, as I never considered that there was a spelling problem, so to speak.

Thanks for that information. I already had some of that. The trouble I have is that one of his children...born 1854, a Frederick PERHAM, I need to see with this family. I was really hoping to get hold of some information from a 1861 census. Frederick PERHAM was travelling in the 1881 census and he was training as an apprentice in the Spirit and Wine Trade in the 1871 census. I know he was born in Buckland St Mary and that he had a brother called John and that his father was called John - but that's all - I guess I really need that information on the 1861 census....how do I get this? Do you know?
Thanks -
Also do you think they changed their name from PERIM to PERHAM???
