Westmeath / Green(e) in Aghnabohy (Piercetown) Westmeath
« on: Wednesday 21 July 10 05:52 BST (UK)  »
Recently discovered that my Greene ancestors also came from Aghnabohy (Piercetown, Westmeath)   Edward Francis "Ned" Greene baptised in Moyvore Parish in Sept 1877. His parents were Edward Green and Elizabeth Flattery who we had been told was last name Flaherty !  Edward Greene born early August 1840 to Thomas Green and Bridget Hannon, Elizabeth born in May 1835 according to one birth record & the 1911 Census and abt 1842 if one believes the 1901 Census.
Ned's siblings were Thomas, Patrick, Mary, Bridget "Bridey" and James Joseph. Not sure if Thomas or Patrick ever married.  Mary did and also had a daughter named Mary but don't know the married last names for either one !  Have been told that Bridey died young.  At one point a family member met the younger Mary in 1975 when she and her sisters traveled back to Ireland but we have since lost contact & have been hoping to re-connect.  Any information on the Greene's of Piercetown is greatly appreciated !

Westmeath / Re: Ann Geraghty

hi all,

A Catherine Geraty is listed as a baptismal sponsor for ancestor Edward Francis "Ned" Greene's in Sept 1877 in Moyvore Parish. There is a Catherine Hannon listed for an earlier siblings baptism. Does a Catherine Hannon who married a Geraty sound familiar to anyone ?

Aussie Irish,

Yes, I'm certain your Francis Rooney was the brother to my Patrick who died on October 22, 1917 in Aughnaboy (Piercetown), Parish of Moyvore, County Westmeath  (I have his funeral card) I don't have your e-mail.  Would love to hear from you and compare info :-)

Does anyone have any knowledge of the Rooney family of  Moyvore ?
Gr-grandfather  Patrick Rooney born abt. 1852 left Ireland before 1889 for Chascomús, Buenos Aires, Argentina where he had a sheep farm. About 1901- 1902 after the death of wife Mary Ann Ganly, Patrick returned to Aughnaboy, Moyvore where he resided until his death on October 22, 1917. Three children , Mary Ann, James & Elizabeth, emigrated to New York City, NY while Margaret stayed in Ireland. Believe Margaret died in Dunleary abt. 1976. I haven't found Patrick's lineage yet. We used to be in contact with some of the cousins but unfotunately have since lost track.
