World War One / WW1 service papers help
« on: Friday 24 April 09 18:50 BST (UK)  »
hi all, i was wondering if anybody would be able to decipher the middle text of this passage from my great grandfathers ww1 papers, he was a twenty year man and then signed back up for another year at the end of the war.

i can't quite make out from 'entitled to travel...' and 'appointed...'
also i'm not sure what this means as well so if anyone could make any sense of what it's saying as well as what the words are  ;) that would be much appreciated...

EDIT: hmm, it doesn't seem to want to let me post the picture it keeps saying that i've already posted a picture of the same name  ???
i'll keep trying...

not really ev, we don't know much about him at all other than he's from scotland/ireland and unfortunately the medal card is hard to find without being able to narrow down what regiment he was in...

Hi I have managed to find three relatives from 1905 -1913 buried in the Torphichen graveyard. However teh folloing names are not, each having died 1953/54 . They are Mary Ann Lawson and Helen(Ellen) Lawson. They are not registered in the societies web site search. Therefore does anyone have any clues as to where they could have been buried in the locale at that time.
Many thanks

Hi all,
this is a picture of my wife's grandfather. We don't really know much about him at all, so any help at all would be appreciated, i can't tell what his cap badge is and is there a significance to, what seems to be a braiding on his left shoulder.

any help would be great
many thanks

Many thanks Jean,

It is a great little web site and I have already traced some relatives in the old grave yard in Torphichen from their work.

So I will drop them an e mail

Cheers

I have several relatives that died in Torphichen between 1900 and 1954 - where would they have been buried locally ? Any ideas as I am visiting there in the next few weeks and would love to track the headstones down as I have all their family history in place now.

Many thanks

Armed Forces / muster notes help
« on: Friday 20 March 09 10:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I've been looking through the muster records of my gg grandfather Joseph Lawson, who was with the 69th foot from 1855 to 1876. This picture is taken from the muster roll for January - March 1861 when he was stationed at the Regimental Depot at Fermoy. He had just got back from Burmah so presumably he landed at Hythe.

After that very long winded introduction can anyone read what the first half of the notes say, I read the end as 'from Hythe 18th March' and I'm hoping that the beginning will be something interesting.

Cheers

Dermot

also does anyone know what 'Tonghoo, Burmah' would be called now?
