Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Charlotte Johnson
« on: Tuesday 13 June 06 20:30 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone having access to the 1851 and 1861 census returns, be kind enough to do a look up for me. Firstly in the 1861 census I am looking for Charlotte Johnson born in 1859 at Spalding, Lincolnshire and her family.  Secondly in the 1851 census I am looking for William Johnson born 1836 in Lincolnshire and his family to try and establish if they share the same family to further my research.  Any help would be most appreciated.

            Many thanks

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Knowes ?
« on: Saturday 25 March 06 18:02 GMT (UK)  »
I have just received marriage certificate of g.grandparents Caroline Hall and William Johnson.  It gives their place of residence only as Knowes, Kirkwhelpington.  Does anyone know anything about this place and does it still exist?  Caroline Hall's occupation is given as servant, if anyone has access to 1861 Census I would appreciate a look-up if they would be so kind.  I know that Caroline was born c1840 in South Shields, but so far have been unable to trace her birth.  On the marriage certificate her father's name is Forrest Hall, a sailor - how would I possibly find him?
So many questions, but if anyone can help me out it would be very much appreciated.

 Many thanks

Durham Lookup Requests / Hall -South Shields
« on: Saturday 18 March 06 23:29 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone has access to the 1841 Census, I would be very grateful for a look up.  I am trying to trace the birth of my paternal great grandmother Caroline Hall who according to later Census returns all give her birth place as South Shields c1840.  What is confusing me even more is that I have obtained birth certificates for my grandmother and one of her siblings who were born three years apart.  On one Caroline's maiden name is given as Hall and on my grandmother's it is given as Owens.

Any help would be most welcome.

Many thanks,

Doric

Scotland / Forth Bridge
« on: Saturday 07 January 06 20:10 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone please help me with a query?  My grandmother was born in Ferryden in 1881 and is shown on the 1881 Census as 2 months old.  Her father William Johnson isn't with the family, but the status of  her mother Caroline  is shown as wife, so presume William being a contractor could have been working away.  However, I have just learned from a distant cousin whilst we were chatting,  that a member of the family was supposed to have been killed working on the Forth Bridge.  I am curious to know if this could be my William, as I have been unable to find him.   By 1891  the family are back in Sunderland and Caroline is shown as widow on the census.  Has anyone any  idea how I can follow this through?   Would there be any records available regarding any accidents that occurred whilst the Forth Bridge was being built?  Any sugestions as to  how I can move forward with this would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Dorothy

Durham / Civil Registration
« on: Saturday 17 December 05 18:11 GMT (UK)  »
Can someone please explain to me why I am unable to find the marriage for my aunt on the civil registration records.  I know that she married Robert Baister somewhere around 1920 but not sure of exact date.  I have looked at Ancestry.co.uk,  Free BMD, Family Search and the Durham Records online, but to no avail.  Any suggestions please?

Durham / Where would he have been buried
« on: Tuesday 09 August 05 20:51 BST (UK)  »
G. Grandfather died in January 1891 at Langley Moor in Co. Durham.  I am having difficulty in finding where he is buried.  Have visited the churchyard there, was told that around that time, all burials starting taking place at the cemetery at Brandon.  Would anyone know if any transcriptions of headstones has been carried out at Brandon, and is there a list available.  Many thanks.
