Durham Completed Look up Requests / Lookup for Ainsley
« on: Thursday 23 June 05 00:03 BST (UK)  »
I would be ever so grateful if someone with access to 1851 Census for Durham could do a lookup for John Ainsley born c1811 at Lanchester and Ann Ainsley born c1822 at Lumley.  I have the family on subsequent census returns but not the 1851.  John was a coal miner and most of John & Ann's family were born at Witton Gilbert, Co. Durham.  Any help would be very much appreciated.  Many thanks.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Worksop Look- ups
« on: Friday 18 February 05 20:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Scottcross,

Many thanks for the offer of look-ups in Worksop.  Please would you be kind enough to do a look-up for a William Johnson born circa 1836 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

I am afraid that I have no other information regarding his family, so anything at all no matter how small will give me a start and will be most appreciated.  ???  ???

Many thanks,

Dorothy

Durham / Ann(ie) Johnson
« on: Friday 11 February 05 18:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

I have no relatives to ask for information, so please can anyone come up with ideas as to how I can obtain my grandmother's date of birth.  All the confirmed information I have is that she was born somewhere in Scotland around 1881.  Her father was William Johnson and at some point the family came back to Co. Durham when she was a child.  She married my grandfather Peter Westgarth Wilson in 1901 at Houghton-le-Spring and she died aged 86yrs in 1967.  Her marriage certificate shows that in 1901 her father was deceased, but I don't know whether he died in Scotland or in Co. Durham.  I have done some research on one family, but only 65% certain that I have the right people.  Looking at Scottish Genealogy sites, I have come across a number of  Ann's, Annie's with a father William, but feel that if I could obtain a definite date of birth for her, it would narrow my search considerably and I would know whether or not I am persuing the right family.

Angus (Forfarshire) / Where is Craig, Ferryden
« on: Sunday 06 February 05 23:25 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me locate this place please, and where would a contractor find work there in the late 1870's.  As far as I know my gt. grandfather William Johnson who was born in Worksop, Nottingham married Caroline ? (Brown) (Owens) from South Shields, Co. Durham at Kirk Whelpington in Northumberland in 1868.  Seemingly they moved to Craig in the late 1870's where two of their children, one of them being my grandmother were born.  On the 1881 Census my grandmother's age is shown as 2mths, but no sign of her father William although her mother Caroline is shown as (Wife)  so I presume William was still alive then.  By 1891 the family show up on the Census living in Southwick, Sunderland and by then Caroline is a widow.  Any help on William please !!!!

Durham / Bulmer/Schellenberg
« on: Saturday 29 January 05 21:36 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help me knock down a brick wall that I have been hitting my head against for the past two or three years.  I have a birth certificate for a Charles Frederick Schellenberg born lst October, 1901 at 12 Cornhill Rd. Southwick, Sunderland.  The mother is given as Eleanor Schellenberg formerly Bulmer, and the father who we believe to be a gt. uncle. also as Charles Frederick Schellenberg, Pork Butcher (journeyman)  The birth was registered by the mother on 2nd December, 1901 whilst living at 25 Richmond Street, Sunderland.  I have checked for a marriage certificate - no luck, I really don't think they were married, I did find Charles Frederick (Snr) on the 1901 census living at Langley Moor, Durham and from snippets of information given by my late father-in-law, he used to call in at their butcher's shop from time to time in the early 20's, but he never mentioned that Charles Frederick had ever married.  Please can anyone help - he just seems to have vanished into thin air - and what happened to Charles Frederick (Jnr)
So curious.

           Many thanks
