Hello, Thank you for your reply!
My dad was there in 1944 he too didn't have an unhappy moment, he was very lucky, from there he moved to Bramhope for a while then back to London. He remembers a few names and managed to get hold of his 'notes' which made him happy. He has fond memories also of the Sisters that looked after him, also walking to School and helping in the Church,  I am hoping to find someone who may know of the staff. We went back a few years ago and the grounds were as he remembered, alas the lovely building is now luxury apartments. I think I will leave this 'story' here if anyone would like to add to it. My dads name is Arthur Rogers and he will be 80 this year.
Thank you again for sharing your story too!
Regards

I am not very familiar with the site but I am wondering if there are any links to Gyde House. My dad was there in the 1940's. Thank you

Hi, Is it possible to find where my Great Grandfather (Thomas Todd) would have worked. On my Grandmothers Birth cert 1906. his occupation was a Ships Rivetter another cert. said left hand Rivetter also Journeyman?. one son was a ships carpenter and 2 others were shipyard boilermen. The home address was 30 Henry Street Sunderland, again it would be brilliant if I could find if the house still stands and where it is.I am only guessing the house may have been built for workers. All information is helpful

Hi Trish, Thank you so much too for the info, what its showing is my lack of knowledge,  especially history!
I have a Funeral card for Maria and Ive been trying to unravel who was my Grandmothers Father. On my Nans birth cert. there isnt a Fathers name but on her marriage cert her fathers is named as Frank Hayes. I recently came across a census showing Frank B Hayes and a visitor was a Lizzie Elizabeth)Pridgeon and her daughter Maud age 5, the birthplace was correct so this started the ball rolling again.

Thank you again for your help, its much appreciated!

THANK YOU so much for this information I have never seen records set out so clearly  :) Do you think that Marias birth name was Hogarty and she is from Galway? I wonder what they were doing in India! Other children were born London.
Thanks again
