London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / 1841 census lookup HOOK family - Deptford
« on: Monday 16 November 09 11:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. Can anyone do an 1841 census lookup for me (or even 1851)??
I am looking for the following family:

John and Elizabeth HOOK (maiden name unknown) possibly born about 1793, possibly in Kent. His occupation could have been engineer of some kind.

I am also looking for their son:
Thomas Lear HOOK and Marie/Mary Therese HOOK. He was born in Dartford, Kent in 1813, and baptized in Deptford at the Wesleyan Chapel. They were married in Paris about 1833. His occupation might have been engineer of some kind. They seemed to have lived in several London suburbs.

Any help would be great. Katharine.

Hi. Don't know if this helps you, but I have used the following method to get in contact with lost relatives.

Find the most recent burial/cremation you can.
Contact the cemetery/crematorium to find out which funeral company was used.
Contact the company stating you are trying to get in contact with the family. For privacy purposes they cannot give you any information. Just leave them your name and contact details and ask them if they could pass them on to the next of kin that they have on record.

As I say, this has worked for me twice. Good luck. Katharine.

Australia / Re: Mystery of a Marriage Record

Henson Young. My suggestion is to order the death certificate for Hannah STRINGFELLOW as noted by ALISON2763. If the informant knew the information it should give you confirmation of her maiden name and parents, also her marriage details. If this certificate doesn't help, then order the husband Peter's.
You can do this through a transcription agent (try a websearch for JOY MURRIN or MARBRACT) - I think it only costs around $17AU rather than the dearer price of the NSW BDM Registry.
Good luck.

Hi Gloss. Thanks for reply. I would love to hear from you via email - how do we exchange email addresses??
I am a descendant of Sarah May NELSON who married Richard GORE in Sydney in 1852. The PEARCES were at Walcha (as you know) and the GORE's settled nearby in Armidale. Happy to share what I have with you. As far as I can tell only Sarah and Mary Jane came out to Australia arriving on the ''Earl Grey" in 1849 (? no notes in front of me!!) listed as Neilson. Do you have any photographs of Mary Jane and Thomas? Or any of the Gore family?

Thanks for the link Les 57. As you live in Bailieborough - can we pick your brain about good places to get information. I would love to know where to get church records for the Nelsons and Wilsons. They seem to have been Presbyterians, or Methodists. The marriage that is listed here  for Frances Wilson and William Nelson in 1824, has been sourced from the LDS family search website. When I went to order the film, I was told it is now restricted. Thus I cannot find out who put the information on the website.
The same person had given some baptism information for the three daughters Sarah May, Mary Jane, and Martha, but no indication which church the baptisms took place.
Any ideas????

Gloss, are you still around. They are my family line too. Would like contact with you - perhaps we have already been in contact regarding our family? Are you down the GORE line, or the PEARCE line. Katharine.

Hi Janice. I am also researching my GORE's from Duncormic, whom I think are closely related to yours. Would love to hear from you.
Do you have contact with Peggy Kennet, or Peg Handcock, as they are both related to Arthur Gore b.1828?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Katharine.
