I am trying to trace my family. Well most people here have managed to traced their family way back, I just at this stage want to know about my mother and grandparents. They died when I was a girl so I never asked about their past, and have so many unasked questions/answers.To make it worse I know very little information about them.
I know they all died in Worcester and have ordered death certs.
I have traced my grandmother/ granddad as being in Worcester in 1938 through the local elector register, but before that she may have lived in hitchin around 1933 ( as It seems my mom was born there)
I have had some help off this board and think my grandmother was born in London, although her name has changed on the local elector register for the time she was in Worcester from beatrice Georgina in 1938 to Georgina b in later records before she died.The birth record that was found for me comes up with a Georgina beatrice. I always thought she was beatrice, and her death record which I have sent off for says beatrice Georgina as does the clip of her death in the paper.
It looks as if my grandfather was born in Worcester. Well there is a name match in the year he would have been born for Worcester, but with a name like smith it is not certain and even if I got the birth cert I can not see how if would comfirm it was him.
How can I check the elector register for Hitchin around 1933 to see if they were there, would I have to go to hitchin? Is there a census around that time I could look up.
I have been in the local history centre for days trying to trace their marriage but to no avail , yet my Gran was a smith by 1938
I am new to all this and do not know how often census are done and would be very grateful if I could be adviced of links on line that may help my search, as getting to the history centre regularly is difficult
