Hi Jenny,
Here's the explanation:
"Grays Thurrock – A History by Brian Evans
The book traces the development of Thurrock and the former villages of Tilbury and Grays etc which have now merged into the town of Grays Thurrock - a major port and the new lowest crossing of the Thames with its tunnels and bridge which carry the M25 traffic between Essex and Kent. "
and according to Genuki, Grays came under the Orsett registration district.
Regards,
Allan

Hi,
It could also be Rotherfield Greys, near Henley, which, to distinguish it from Rotherfield Peppard, is known simply as Greys by all and sundry locally.

And I thought it was going to be so simple. Should have guessed that nothing ever is!
Thanks everyone. Jenny
