Hi Boland,
Where are you looking for the certificates?  If FreeBMD it is nowhere near complete.
Let us know what you've looked at and I'm sure suggestions will come flooding in!!  ;D

Am tracing in Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, have tried Scotlandspeople and LDS. They appear in 61,71,81 census have bmd of most the children.
On the 1881 census they have a son John living with them by 1891he is living with his married sister/ family,(Boland) in Calderbank so presume they died in that 10 year timeframe
Have also checked  Census Returns Galston,Ayrshire as another sister lived thereMary Glen

Dont know what to try next?????

Hi again,

Might be a good idea to post your query on the Lanarkshire board...if you have tried scotland's people and had no joy there, you will need some Scotland experts, and there are plenty on that board!  I'm sorry I have little experience of Scottish research and what I have done I've been lucky to get results from, so I can't really help you with this one  :(

Could be something as simple as searching surrounding parishes, did you give that a go?

Good luck!!

Hi Boland

ScotlandsPeople should have every civil registration for BDMs since 1855, but online you only get access to births to 1904, marriages 1929 and deaths 1954. Thus said, if your folks are on the 1861 census they probably died before 1954 so should be there.

As Prue suggested, they could well have moved (perhaps gone to live with children?) so you may need to search a little wider and, of course, be inventive with your names.

The IGI is mainly pre civil registration data and contains very few deaths (burials). It is mainly births and marriages.

had to widen search and be inventive

You have to think with an accent similar to an 1800s  registrar -  ;D  ;D
Many of our ancestors were illiterate and how they said the name was what the registrar recorded. He may have heard it differently to how they said it - based on accents.  Tricky.

have fun searching
