Bradford West Riding 1851 Scanlon/Fay
« on: Thursday 26 August 04 17:54 BST (UK) »
Since obtaining the birth certificate for my g grandmother Mary Scanlon born 1856 I have a Bradford address for the family at that time, Could someone please look up the 1851 census using the following info:

Robert Scanlon Head Occupation Tailor
Catharine Scanlon (Nee Fay) Wife

Address 58 Sun Street Bradford (which may be Queensberry as Sun Street exists in that area of Bradford)

Hope someone can help

(I have sent for copies of census etc for the area, but I am very impatient - or is it very persistent in my search)

I am moving this request to the general census lookup requests board where it may get a better response.

I had a very quick look in the searchable census produced by the Bradford FHS. Only a handful of Scanlons in Bradford - all of Irish origin. No sign of a Robert.
Researching Moon, Jeffrey, Umpleby, Mortimer, Lowcock, Lynch, Naylor, Cobb, Emmott, Lofthouse, Limbert, Brooks, Gilbank, Wilkinson, Watkinson, Hebden, Hey and Clemie in Yorkshire
and
Myatt and Lawrence in Staffordshire and Warwickshire

Thanks for your trouble,

I am beginning to wonder if the family had settled in Bradford by 1851, however I can't find them in 1861 or 1871 either. They obviously appear on the birth and marriage certificates, but not on any of the census until 1881 when they are in Wakefield.

Thanks again
