I have this random picture in my collection, I have no idea who it is, but if I knew what the uniform was fron it may help in figuring it out.

scattletrap,i think its boer war period, the chevron is a good conduct stripe, the crossed cannons usually mean a gunnery instructor but his seem to have a crown above and hes wearing no stripes, the only badge i have seen like this,is a royal artillery best battery prize badge, which was worn by all the NCOs and men in the battery, mack

I tend to agree with manmac by saying that it is most likely to be from the Boer war period. He also has what looks like a medal ribon on his tunic as well.

I would say that the uniform is from the WW1. I would also say the the soldier is an ANZAC, he is also wearing calf length boots with no toecap. This would indicate Cavalry, the hat is good indcator to, the crossed rifles tell us that he is a marksman.
The photograph may well have been taken in Egypt by the look of the back ground.

It's an albumen print, so unlikely to be as late as WW1.  I'd say the Boer War period is more realistic  :)

I just checked for the war medals for people who served with ANZAC but couldn't recognise any of the names.
