Kennedy - Bewcastle pre 1837 - COMPLETED

Hi - anyone got any info on either the following Kennedy's or their relatives please?

Thomas Kennedy (Kennaday) b abt 1835-40 had son Leonard Kennedy (Kennadey) Christened 4-Mar-1759 in Bewcastle. - (Either of the above's spouse/siblings not known). Leonard did have a son also called Leonard (1796 - 08/05/1841) who lived in Walton, Cumberland.

Any info or clues appreciated to Thomas and son Leonard etc..

BTW - which parish is Bewcastle in?

According to Genuki & parloc, Bewcastle is in Cumberland
Leonard is An extracted record on the IGI
LEONARD KENNADAY  Christening:  04 MAR 1759   Bewcastle, Cumberland, England
Father:  THOMS KENNADAY

Probably some siblings as well look in batch  C036772

Hello

Regarding your request on the Kennaday family at Bewcastle.

I did check out the original church records today, but the early records are practically unreadable, although I did see your Leonard's baptism registerd on the 4th March 1759, as you stated, and father as Thomas Kennaday.

I did find,
Robert and John Kennaday, sons, baptised 21 October 1822, parents stated as Leonard Kennedy and Jane Kennaday, Nee Dodgson.  Also noted the marriage dated as 26 March 1823, at Bewcastle, lives at Cleughside, Cumberland.  Witness  to the wedding, John Elliott and Margaret Armstrong.

Also, William baptised 28 June 1823 , parents Leonard Kennaday and Jane Kennaday, Nee Rae, lived at Roantrees, Cumberland.

The actual church records are easier to read after 1813 though they do begin at 1788.

I hope this helps and fits in somewhere.

these are the only kennedy's burried at bewcastle

336. KENNEDY: [AGAINST EAST CHURCHYARD WALL] In memory of Alexander Kennedy, of Longly Burnfoot, who died Oct 26th 1768, aged 64 years, Also his wife Nanney who died Septbr 21st 1799, aged 80 years.

510. KENNEDY: In memory of Thomas Kennedy, of Burnfoot-hillhead, who died June 5th. 1815, aged 32 years. Also Mary, his wife, died at Crag-Burn, June 26th. 1867, aged 78 years.

511. KENNEDY: Here lies the body of John Kennedy, who died at Mosthorn, Febr. 2nd. 1781, aged 91 years. Also Dorithy Kennedy, his wife, who died July 2nd. 1778, aged 80 years.

I am very new to this....only my second post.  I see you have Kennedys in Bewcastle & Stapleton.  I have been searching for quite awhile for a marriage between Elizabeth Kennedy (census indicates born about 1828 in Bewcastle) and Jonathan Steele (born 1827 in Stapleton). I think they would have married about 1848 but cannot find in any registration.  Their oldest child Margaret Steele was born in Stapleton in 1849 and is my gGrandmother.  Would you happen to know to which Kennedy family this Elizabeth might belong?

Your Elizabeth & Jonathan Steel are in my research files but quite frankly I have nothing on them.. to link to either of them.

You wouldn't happen to be on GR Linda?? (known as Linda Murray??)  If not then she is also related to those two, but was also looking for more info on them.

Not sure if it's any use but I also have a Robert Steele - Born 1859 @ Castle Heaton, North Glendale, Northumberland.  He married 1883 a Mary ann Kennedy Born 1863 @ Blenkinsopp, Northumberland

Reason for mentioning in was that a lot of my Kennedy's also has cousins / lived in that part of Northumberland.
