Prudhoe surname
« on: Wednesday 02 November 05 20:33 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody help me to find out the name of my Great-great-great grandfather?  From the census records I have got back as far as my Great-great grandfather who was Edward Prudhoe born in 1813 in Blaydon/Winlaton, but can't find any information about his father. I can't even find a birth registration or Baptism record for Edward which might have given me these details-can anyone help please?
Thanks,
Marilyn

You could try family history online.

Just google for web address, free to look for matches but you have to pay to view them.  Found a marriage I had been searching for ages.  worth a look.

hope this helps

No problem Marilyn.

I don't know if you are local to the NE but the town Prudhoe is often pronounced Prud-uh with the emphasis on the first syllable - this would probably leave the name very much open to corruption.

Hi Josiah,

Yes, I have noticed there are some variants regarding the name- mostly "Pruddah", so I always check them out when doing a search.
I am not from the area, but my grandfather was from Blaydon. I have managed to find my ancestors back to my great-great grandfather, and have now discovered his father's name to be Edward, but I cannot find them on the 1841 census for the area.
I will keep searching though, thanks once again for your help,
Marilyn
