Merthyr Tydfil Births
« on: Thursday 03 November 05 10:28 GMT (UK) »
Would like to establish if any lister has birth registrations for      Merthyr Tydfil 1854- 1861. My problem is that my grandmother Catherine LLewellyn born 1872 and has her mother listed as Ann Davies.  Catherine was the last of 7 children. The first 4 born in    Merthyr Tydfil the last 3 born Pontypridd. But I cannot locate the marriage of Daniel LLewellyn to a Ann Davies. So wondering if the first 4 children were born to a  Ann Lewis and Daniel LLewellyn , then maybe Ann Lewis died and Daniel then lived with Ann Davies but did not marry her.The reason I say this is that a witness on the marriage of Daniel and Ann Lewis was a Ann Davies. So if any lister can inform me who was the mother of the first four children, Elizabeth 1855, Jemima 1856,Evan1856, and William 1860 all born Merthyr Tydfil it might solve my problem.
I apologise for the length of this request. Thankyou .

All children - mother's maiden name is DAVIS.

(Incidentally there are 9 births recorded for Llewellyn children with mother's maiden name Davis ranging frim 1848 to 1860. Infant mortality was extremely high at that time as Merthyr was plagued with cholera & typhoid epidemics amongst other things!)

Additionally, there is a marriage for an EVAN Llewellyn to an Ann Davis at Carmel Baptist Chapel on the 22nd May 1847?

Bearing in mind they have a son called Evan could this be a possibility?

All the best  :)

Hi Nigel  Thankyou so much for the information. I have looked for the marriage of Danel LLewellyn and Ann Davies for years ,without success. Maybe Evan might have had Daniel as a 2nd name or Daniel had Evan as a 2nd name. I think I will have to have a serious think about what I am going to do next. Did the information which you found say if Evan or Daniel LLewellyn was a woodman. Aginthankyou for all your help..

Posted all the details available - to get Evan's (or is it Daniel's!)occupation you'd have to get the marriage cert.  :)

does anyone have the capacity to look up a marriage record for mary phillips of wales (brescon rumney) and George W. Lines or Lyons of bitton,UK.  married probably around 1843. found them in the 1851 census and all their children were born in pontypool. thank you, karen lyons
