Carlisle, 1841 or 1851
« on: Sunday 29 August 04 08:30 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace the back ground of Mary Ferguson, who was born in Carlisle in 1834 or 1835.  Is it possible to look her up on the census for 1841 or 1851, please?
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

Do you have any idea where in Carlisle she maybe?  The 1841 census isn't indexed except by area on cd and Carlisle is too big to go through frame by frame.

For 1851 there is a surname index for most of Carlisle it can be found here...

It may help to narrow down the search  a bit.

Cheers,
Pam

Sorry not to have replied sooner, I've only just picked this message up.  I don't know where in Carlisle Mary was born, just got "Carlisle" from 1881 and 1901 censuses.  I realise it's a big ask.  Te surname index on the site you mentioned doesn't seem to be working.

Hi

just browsing through the boards as have part of the Carlisle 1851 and found your request.  If you are still looking try these links for the surname index:

http://rolyg.members.beeb.net/index.htm

There is a Mary Ferguson age 17 on the 1851 living at 12 Waugh's Lane.  Do you have details of parents or an occupation / other details that could check it is the one you are looking for?
