Hi Alli

Thanks very much for taking the time to look up the Hannafords.

I suppose it would be too much to ask if they the parents were still alive in 1901?

They would have been 76yrs and 66 years old respectively.

Kind regards

Chris

Hi Alli,

Once again you have hit the jackpot ! Thanks ever so much.

If Joseph Hannaford was a widower in 1901 at 77 years old, then the old photo that I have of a couple who look in their 80s ? just guessing - could be them.  Ann Hannaford looks older than the 67 years (at the most) that she could have been if she died in census year 1901.

Well she did have 12 children !! It is not suprising. !!

As a matter of interest the photo is a cabinet card by H. Yeo of 169, Union Street, Plymouth. Award winner in 1892.

I found the excellent website Victorian & Edwardian Photographs - Roger Vaughan Picture Library very informative in dating old photos.

Many thanks again Alli.

Regards,

Chris

Hi All,

I have just joined the site and am looking for information re the "Hannafords" of Salcombe / Plymouth.
My information to date has Amelia Bethia Hannaford, my great great grandmother on my fathers side, married to John Symons on the 30th of Jan 1844 in Marlborough Devon.  Father of Bethia is Richard Hannaford, a shipwright, his wife is Ann and they had five children, Amelia, John, Joseph, Maryann and Matilda (Census 1841).  Joseph Hannaford and Ann Lewis were witnesses to the marriage.  I am looking for confirmation of dates - birth and death.  Is anybody able to confirm this information or add to it.  I am confident of the data up to Richard, in the 1841 census he was 50 putting his DOB around 1791 but would like to go back a bit further.

 :)

Hi Frank,
Thank you for making contact. I am happy to pass on any information to you that would be helpful, but I too have had difficulty going back further than 1841.

I have the 1841 census details of Richard Hannaford b 1791, but with wife Jane (Gay Bowhey) ? Amelia Bethan is given as their daughter, her brother Joseph is my husband's g.g.grandad on his father's side. Richard was alive and a widower in 1861, but possibly may have died in 1863 or 1867 Kingsbridge District? I have be unable to confirm this. His wife must have died between 1851 and 1861.
Do you have any marriage details?

Regards,
Chris
