Hi,

Here are the Cotter households in Fermoy during the Griffith valuation. You will probably have to go to parish records to find your grandad's baptism.

What was his first son's name? Would normally be named after his father.

Anne Cork-Hill
James Pound-Lane
John Artillery Quay
John Pound-Lane
John Queen Square
Thomas Cork Hill
William Artillery Quay

Hi Kate,

Many thanks for your reply, I found it very helpful, as Michael's father was James, and he named his third son John, there is a James and a John in Pound Lane, which is now called Devlin Street.
So I will follow this further, and see what happens.

Thanks again Kate,

Pam :)

Hi,
He may have been from the surrounding area and listed as Fermoy to avoid transcribing townlands, so might be worth casting the net a bit wider.

My Cotters are from the Rathcormac area, a village not far from Fermoy, but are of no use to you as arrived there later.

Can't help with the convict query but I have a Margaret Cotter from this area who married Peter McLoughlin (she was his second wife). They moved to England and ended up in Liverpool. Do you recognise any of this info? I'm having trouble tracking my Irish ancestry!

Afraid I don't have any connection. Have not done a huge amount on that tree though!

A lot of diggin all round. Wish Scotland records were not separate! Makes it harder.
