Killed during WW11 - how to find out
« on: Saturday 12 November 05 07:25 GMT (UK) »
My uncle died around 1918 and I am wondering if he was killed in service.
His details I have are -
Aflred Walter Payne,  b 1882  Brighton.
Where can I start looking?
This is just a long shot but worth a try.
Thanks.

Hi gay,

as the previous poster said try the CWWGC, use either his christian name or his middle name in your search.  He may have liked to be called by either.  There are a lot of Paynes when you punch in the search, if you are lucky it will give the names of his parents and which war grave he is buried
in.
http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/SearchResults.aspx?surname=payne&initials=w&war=1&yearfrom=1900&yearto=2000&nationality=6

copy and punch in the above to help you in your search

aw ra best in your search
