1841,1851 and 1871 request
« on: Tuesday 31 August 04 20:47 BST (UK) »
Could someone please look this up for me.  I'm not sure if this is the right board to post in, because it is on the boarder of kent and sussex.

On the 1851 census i have got a James Sumner that married a Sarah and lived at Pennybridge, Wadhurst with children.  James should be about 48 years on the census and he was born in rotherfield parish.

I found James Sumner with Sarah on the 1861 census and they were still living in the same place.  But when it came to the 1881 census they had moved to Claytons, Ashurst and Sarah had died.  I know that Sarah died in 1861.

So could someone please look up on the 1871 if poss for James Sumner at Pennybridge, Wadhurst and Claytons, Ashurst so i know roughly when they moved there.  James did re marry but i got no date but his second wife was Mary Ann, but they had a child in 1864 so she should be in the same place as him.

Also if James can be looked up in 1841 with Sarah at Pennybridge, Wadhurst i would greatful.

Thanks to anyone that can help me.

Hi Darkside

At the present moment I do not have access at home to either the 1841 or 1871 census for Sussex, and in particular Wadhurst which is only a few miles up the A21 en route to London.

But, I did today order the 1841 Susex Census on CD, hopefully it will be here before the end of the week and will look then for you - Dont forget to give me a nudge

Chris

I was just wondering if you had any luck getting your cds yet and also a note to say they might be sumners not sumner.  I have discovered this with many of the sumner's that on census and birth records have said sumners.

Hope you have some luck on it

Hi again Chris

If its not too much trouble when you get your 1841 cd would be able to search for all the sumner/sumners that are in the wadhurst area? I sure they will all end up being ones i'm looking for and it will save me keep asking for them 1 by 1.

Thanks again

HI Darkside

Have just looked through the 80 pages of the 1841 census for Wadhurst - did not spot one single Sumner or Sumners

But on saying that my eyes are tire, so will have another look through them tomorrow

Remember this for me please HO107/ 1116/ 108 - Wadhurst

Thanks

Thanks for looking it up Chris

Just sad that you couldn't come up with anything hopefully you have some luck the second time round.  Would be able to look them up in Frant or Speldhurst, because they are the other areas they are known in, but that might be a bit out of your area.

Thanks again

Hi Darkside

Went through the 80 pages for the 1841 for Wadhurst again - but still found nothing.

Frant came back with 126 pages - some of them were virtually blank, just faint traces of writing, whilst on others the ink had run into other pages making them very dark and smudgy, very very hard to read them - did not find any entries that clearly said Sumner or Summers.

Now going to have a look through Speldhurst - except that I cant find it on the cd's

Not having much luck am I
