Giltrow-Boer War
« on: Thursday 17 November 05 12:26 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to research the Giltrow Family of New Bradwell, Milton Keynes. I believe that one or two of the many sons may have fought in the Boer War. Does anyone has access to any records that would list all or any Giltrows that served in this war.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Annie

I presume thats the WW1 medal index you are talking about, I have seen that and will be looking at that more closely next time I am able to get down to Kew. I had become aware that there is something similar for the Boer War and was hoping that someone would have access to it. At present all I have is their names.

Hi Ian!

Many soldiers who came home from the Boer War also went to fight in France!
especially career soldiers - many times their medals are for both wars! My Grandfathers both had medal cards!

Check it out ! but also check 1891 and even 1901 census - sometimes you find a reference to a regiment - if you post the names and birthdates  and any other information here - maybe somebody can help you!

Annie  :)

Hi Annie,

Yes, I've got all the 1901 census stuff and it was researching Frank that got me started. I know that two of the brothers volunteered to go to S. Africa but I can't find anything to say whether they went or not?
