Hi David,
The 1881 census is searchable and free on line at
www.familysearch.org/
I'd try later on because it seems to be rather busy at the moment. :(, sorry can't help with the 1891

HI Oly

Many thanks once again for your help. The  1901 record is all most certainly correct because she bought a house in Alfriston, very near Deans Place (which is now a hotel). I'm sure the 1891 is the right family, but I wonder were she was?

Hello David

1881 Census Islington 0226  47  34
22 College Street
William Major 29 Head M  Job Master and horse Dealer         Yorkshire
Martha     "     28 wife                                                    Doncaster
Margaret Bryon 40 servant                                              Middlesex

Lily is elusive, coming out in Paris probably, with the money that dad
is making. Still looking.

Is Martha Lee married to William Major, Sculcoates
March quarter 1876, 9d  203 correct.
Is Lily ever known by any other forename.

Hi Oly

Lily was not short of a penny, she married even better (married Arthur Sidney Hayne's in London). She was on my wife's side, and as far as we know, she was only known as Lily, which is also on her marriage certificate. I did not have Marth's & Williams marriage details, so many thanks for that. I reckon it is correct because Lily was born in Sculcoates.

Perhaps Lily was in boarding school for the 1891?, but it does not answer the 1881 unless her age was wrong on the 1901 and she was born after 1881?. I do have her burial detail's so I will re-check the age at death.

Hello again

1851 Barnby Dun 2348  196  22
Thomas Lee 48 and Martha 42 farming 142 acres with 11 children
including Martha age 5. All the children born Barnby Dun. Ten
miles from where I am sitting. I would think in our local research
room I could trace them back to Adam with a bit of luck.

1851 Sledmere 3610 77 12
William major 50 and wife Elizabeth 47 farming 360 acres at
Sledmere with six children including William age 10 born Wetwang.

Had a pint or two and a good meal at Wetwang, some history
in Wetwang and the surrounding district.
My wife enjoys family history is good at deciphering handwriting
and a wiz with our family database. Just one of our retirement
hobbies.

HI Oly

Your both obviously very good at your hobby!!!!!!. Would you like to take over my Ibbotson Family research, "Only joking" that would take all the fun away.

It obvious that both sides of Lily's parent were well off.  It must have rubbed off, because Lily died a millionaire. Not only did she have money in those day's, she was also good looking. We have a large portrait of her sitting in the grounds of her house in Alfriston just after she married.

Once again many thanks for your help.

Hi Oly

I did re-check Lily's burial details, and she was buried 1972 aged 92. I have also found her birth details March quarter 1881 Sculcoates. So that explains why she was not on the 1881 census, but I still cannot find were she was in  1891?
