1841 Aveyard - Yorkshire
« on: Thursday 17 November 05 21:54 GMT (UK) »
Could someone possibly help me with an 1841 lookup for Mary Aveyard with her father James Aveyard, Mary was born 1838 (as far as I can see), she would have been about 4 years of age.

This link may help with more information.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello Stanley

Better to put details of your request here. See Tickers advice re census requests.
The 1841 is only sparsely indexed so where would you like me to look for Mary
and if it is a big town you will need to wait for an Index. Unless its Sheffield of
course, thanks to the Sheffield Indexers.

Yes please if you could look for Mary Aveyard who I think was born in 1838, she should be shown with her father james Aveyard ?

As far as I can tell they are in the Stanley - Wrenthorpe - Wakefield area.

Much appreciasted.

Hello Andy

Wrenthorpe cum Stanley 1271/9 page 38a
Wrenthorpe
Thomas Clufton 60 ag lab     Y
Ann           "       60           Y
Mary Whitely       14           Y
Mary Aveyard      3             Y

Clufton was difficult to read but consensus here said Clufton.

Wrenthorpe cum Stanley 1271/7 page 31a
Boles Road Wrenthorpe
Peter Aveyard 35  Coal miner    Y
Maria       "       35                 Y
George    "       14                  Y

Another Aveyard may be a connection.

Hi Oly,
Thanks for taking the time to do the lookup.
The Mary who is shown with Clufton would be of the correct age but I'm now wondering why she isn't shown with her father James Aveyard ? Any suggestions as to what I should do next ? (Novice alert)  ;)

Hello Andy

A recap

1871 Census Stanley cum Wrenthorpe 4621 12 18
Bragg Lane
John Barker head M 30 farm lab       Ardsley
Mary    "       wife  M 32                    Bragg Lane
Joseph "      son  13      coal miner         "
Elizabeth "  dau   9          scholar           "
Mary Barker nee Aveyard
Joseph Barker christened  Aveyard

1881 Census see Stanley 4574  136  36
1891       "       "       "        3747    58    5

I have checked the 1851 and 61 Wrenthorpe for Mary
without success. Some Mary Aveyards in the surrounding
areas but they do not quite fit. Don't give up, a fellow on
the Derbyshire board found me a hit that I missed when a
number of Naylor families were indexed as Maylor, I searched
for every configuration of the last 4 letters but never changed
the first. to complicate things the forename Elijah was indexed
Elizah

Some points must be proved by certificates, the marriage cert
would give you Marys father.
Until a full 1841 index is available it is difficult to find where
Marys parents are.
The next step would be a visit to Wakefield Archives, book
before you go, the staff are very helpful. Outline exactly what
you require e.g. Parish Records for Wrenthorpe. When you book
the registers or indexes would be ready for your visit.
Another point of call would be Wakefield Family History Society.
See their Web Page, they do look ups for a fee and have lots of data.

When you post your requests here, it would be better to type
details than provide difficult to read links, you have done the work
finding them, make it easy for us. Good Luck in your search, you are
getting there.
The statement above is my point of view take your directions from
the moderators of the board.
