Walston Essex - Emily Sarah Heard
« on: Saturday 04 September 04 16:36 BST (UK) »
HI,
can anybody help me with a couple of problems please.

I have discovered that my grandfathers mother was originally called Emily Sarah HEARD who was born In WALSTON Essex around 1858/59. She is shown on the 1901 census at 14 Beaumont Road Leyton (Essex) aged 42 years.

She originally married someone called Patmore and had a son. This son is listed on the 1901 census as "Patmore" Newing (no Christian names) at 14 Beaumont Road Leyton (Essex)

My grandfather (William George Newing) was born in 1896 also at Beaumont Road Leyton (Essex) his father was George William Newing, from Barham Kent.

Can anybody give me any leads to  Emily Heard, her original marriage, her son "Patmore" or the villiage of Walston Essex, as I have "hit the wall" and need some new leads to get stuck into.

Appreciate any help or suggestions.
Thanks.

HI,
thanks Nicky, I am sure the 1871 info is correct, but not sure about the 1881. Think if Emily is using Sarah and she is 25 it will make here a bit too old.

Thanks so much for your efforts on my behalf, it has given me a new thread to look at.

Any suggestions on how I can find out if her first marriage was disolved or if her husband died?
Also still have the problem of trying to find the Christian names of their offspring "Patmore".
Thanks again.

Do you think that 'Walston' might be a mistranscription/mishearing of Walthamstow or even Walton?
I have heard of the surname 'Walston'. A family of that name owned/owns lots of land in Essex and East Anglia

Hi Kate,
thank you so much for that info from the 1861 you are a real life safer.
I think Walston is a registration district for Earls Colne and is a "Red Herring"

Not sure if anyone can help me with the next difficulty concerning Emily,
Where is she in 1891? We know she is married to Charles Patmore and that the son (Patmore) is born around 1889, I think Charles died in 1891 and Emily went on the marry my g-grandfather (George William NEWING) in 1893
and my grandfathr (William George) is then born in 1896.
Can anyone help or come up with some suggestions as to where she might be found?

Thanks again Kate
